A Funny Thing Happened on Rt. 66
June 11-13, 2010 the Arizona H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) Rally was held in Williams, Arizona.
Bikers were in town from all over the world and the Williams, Arizona was alive with the sound of booming engines. I was "working the street" with a book signing event in front of my favorite Rt. 66 restaurant, the Grand Canyon Coffee and Cafe. I purchased a Biker "wannabe" vest to fit in see what would happen as I sold my book and buttons on the street.
I had lots of fun meeting the most exciting people just wanting to soak in the magic of Rt. 66.
As the day finished up a couple inside the Grand Canyon Coffe & Cafe stopped me as I was putting my sign away for the next day. We started talking about what I did as an author and a consultant for small business and real estate. I explained that I really helped buyers and sellers "vet" real estate agents across the country and helped them connect the real estate dots in a transaction.
The couple explained to me they were selling their home "For Sale By Owner" because they had an unpleasant experience in the past... you know the story. I explained to them that the real estate sales transaction needed to be team work as the market was such that the messenger cannot be responsible for a market created by so many external factors.
Long story short.... they asked me over to see their home and what I thought. I did a market analysis before I went and thought this would be the perfect opportunity for me to implement all the ideas being expressed in today's social media/blog/video marketing world and put them to use to SELL the home. The sellers have allowed me to "PRACTICE what I TEACH" and I need your help to sell this great property. I felt there was a strong message here in that talking with people about real estate is easy to do no matter what you are doing. I worked the beach when I lived in Hawaii making sand castles with my daughter so this encounter on Rt. 66 just proved to me again, that networking is networking no matter what you do. People LOVE to talk about real estate so being prepared to share what you do and how you do it never changes.
I explained to the owners, I had not been actively working with buyers or sellers as a "one on one" agent for almost two years as I have been working the consulting business. We decided I would work with them to sell this house as a TEAM. They understood that I would be working with them as a test basis in implementing the 21st century marketing tools to sell their home. They gave me permission to blog about the experience using their home as an example.
I created a facebook fan/like page for Williams, Arizona real estate. I have taken screen shots of the step by step process to be able to post later. I was so exctied to get 28 new likes/fans in the first 6 hours to be able to connect with agents across the country on a real estate specific page and share what was going on in other parts of the country. I invite you to "like" my real estate page and favorite the page. I will do the same with your page so we can connect and cross post. I created a youtube channel for Williams Arizona video. I moved some of my "localism" videos over to the new channel to create a snap shot of Williams, Arizona. I created a category on Flickr for pictures of the listing and galleries on facebook about Williams and the property.
