strategic defaults leave a bad taste in my mouth... May as well say "moral decay" 

Yes and no. What the banks don't want their borrowers to know is that they, themselves, do a strategic default now and then on property that they have invested in. I know, I know, 2 wrongs don't make it right (but 3 lefts do) but who wants their morality put at the same level as the greedy, heartless, banks?
