Hi!
I have found that many Feng Shui Principles are used in Home Staging and things Feng Shui Consultants have been doing for years with the "buzz" words of Home Staging, Home Redesign and Curb Appeal. One example is Home Stagers will open the blinds for a light and airy feeling. We see it as letting the "outside energy" in. Or clearing a path to the front door and making sure the door is well groomed. In Feng Shui, the front door is the "Mouth of Chi" and the pathway to it and the entranceway are always addressed. We re-arrange the furniture to allow a good flow of energy and the number one principle of Feng Shui as in Home Staging is to declutter!
In addition to many of the same things Home Staging Professionals do, we are likely to use simple things like crystals, plants, windchimes and a water feature to enhance the energy. There are currently no set standards (unfortunately) for either Feng Shui Consultants or Home Stagers, though many of the new sites lead you to believe you can become "accedited" or a Home Staging "Expert" if you take their courses which are oftentimes very expensive.
A good Home Stager should work with a seamstress (window treatments can be inexpensive and make a huge difference) and have access to furnture rental, if necessary for empty homes although changing the energy in a home is not usually expensive or difficult.
I do home staing on Long Island and New York City and would be happy to talk to other stagers for opinions and networking. You can contact me by email at HomeStagingLI@aol.com or visit my website for additional information for real estate agents at http://www.fengshuili.com/
