In previous "Out and About" Blogs I have told you a little bit of Historic Occoquan and some of the new developments within the town borders however the Occoquan River has a number of interesting Prince William communities along its banks. The name Occoquan comes from the Dogue Indians and means "the end of the water". The Dogue Indians lived along the banks of the Occoquan and were among the first Indian Tribes that the European settlers encountered after landing at Jamestown.
For home buyers who are looking for property that is not the usual Prince William County colonial then you might be interested in checking out the community of Occoquan Forest. Located not far for the Prince William County Center this community has its own private park along the river great for launching your kayak, fishing for your dinner or having a summer evening picnic. The community has just over 200 homes tucked into the trees.
Owners who have settled into the neighborhood on one of the side streets often "trade-up" to a waterfront home later on. As a result many times the homes with water views do not come on the market. This year only 4 waterfront homes have come on the market and there are currently only 6 homes for sale in the neighborhood. Prices range from $384,000 for an original owner 1900 square foot home that needs a little TLC to a $699,000 home perched above the river with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
So if you are looking for a vacation at home neighborhood then this is one Prince William County neighborhood you may want to check out. For more information on Occoquan Forest or other communities along the river give me a call.
