Joan Rivers Penthouse - One Year Later, Still For Sale

By
Real Estate Agent with COMPASS DRE# 01339266

Exactly a year ago I blogged about Joan Rivers' New York Apartment that was listed For Sale at $25 Million.

According to the Sotheby's Website the property is still For Sale, with no price reduction from last years breathtaking price tag of $25 Million.

Around the same time Joan Rivers also listed her Connecticut house For Sale at an asking price of $6.5 Million.

I checked that Listing Agent's website (Klemm Real Estate) and it appears that the house is also still listed For Sale, but has been reduced to $5.9 Million.

I think it goes to show that even this highest end of the market is yet to improve ......!!

Sounds as though the price is too high and needs to be dropped.

Sounds, like she is not motivated to sell nor does she have to.

I guess she's just testing the market and no takers.

Can you blame the buyers for staying away....it's Joan Rivers!  LOL!  They may think some of her craziness will rub off on them.  In all seriousness....reduce the price!

I think Ryan is onto something, Stewart.  I'm not sure having Joan Rivers as the seller is a plus.

Stewart,

I guess it also goes to show that no matter who the seller or what their status or situation is, no one is immune to overpriceitis.

IMO She loves that that apartment too much to sell. I recently saw the documentary Joan Rivers: A piece of work. Most of the film is shot in her apartment. Louis XIV is a very specific style taste. She makes a joke about the apartment "this is where Marie Antoinette would live if she had the money"  She has a whole wall in the apartment that is a built-in index card catalog where she files every one of her jokes. She works non stop to pay the bills and never turns down a job. She joked that she would knock her teeth out to do a denture commercial if the money was good.

Other high end apartments are selling. Matt Damon just bought one of the  penthouses for $20 million in a new condo at 535 West End Avenue right across the street from my apartment on the upper west side.

Stewart, Great post. The fact that we all come from such different markets is one of the highlights of being on Active Rain. You could practically buy the whole county I live in for 25M.

Stewart...

OMG, I thought by the title that you meant Joan Rivers did a pictorial in "Penthouse" Magazine in which case I could understand why it was a no-sale!

Steward,

I agree with comment #8 regarding style.  Overly personalized design and decorating can be a real challenge when it comes time to sell.

Mitch (#8 above) - I also recently saw "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work".

I thought it was an extremely well done and insightful documentary into this comedic icon.

Richard (#10 above) - Be nice :)

For the right money I believe Joan Rivers would do a Penthouses spread...!!

Have you read that Helen Miren (age 65) is topless in her latest movie?
