Hi All...I am quite new here and I have seen several great blogs that have some "widgets" under the photos...how do I get them and how do I put them on my blog?

 Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks...and B-good...Lipe

Hello and welcome to AR, Lipe.  We're glad you joined.  Regards to your question about widgets:

  • if you already have the HTML code for the widget you want to use, copy it and go to your Profile, click on My Blog Settings, and paste it in the Blog Description Box.  Click on Update and your widget will show up under your picture on your blog page.
  • If you'd like to create a real estate vFlyer widget just like mine here, (not promoting my blog, just easier to illustrate this way) http://activerain.com/blogsview/138896/Guide-to-Your-WYSIWYG
  • go to vflyer.com, postlets.com, meez.com, etc., and create your widgets there, copy the HTML code and paste it like the first step above.
  • The above link also tells you how to post to localism.com.

I hope that helps.  If you have other questions, post them in the Newbie Group (we're very helful there), or e-mail me.

Good gravy, Yolanda. You sure are a wealth of information! I was wondering the same thing, too, Lipe. I'm glad you asked the question. Look out "widgets" . . . here I come! LOL

Oh, wait! Follow-up question? Have you seen those caricatures people have had done for themselves? Do you know how I could get one of those done for me, too?

Yolanda:  Somehow I knew when I read Lipe's question, that you would be the one to come to the rescue!  And I'm glad you did.  I have noted everything in your wonderful blog that you referenced above but I struggled with how to actually carry things that I created over to my profile page.  I created my name with glittermaker yesterday but then I didn't know what to do after that.  When I grow up, I want to be just like you.  :-)

Lipe - Welcome to Active Rain.  Be careful it is addictive!  I am so glad you asked because I've been waiting for someone to and Yolanda is an excellent resource.  I can't wait to add widgets now that I have the other piece of the puzzle.  Thanks Yo and Lipe and Ilyce - I just learned something from your question too.

We are all learning what every teenager probably already knows (LOL). Just so you know, I have found that you can go to the AR search just like google and request info from previous post. You and I are asking questions others have as well. Welcome to the community.

Hello Ladies...

Thanks for the warm welcome...its so cozy in here...

Yolanda: since your answer was so good, prompt and precise, I might be asking more in the future....

Ilyce: I will take a look at those caricatures, but I have a feeling mine will have less hair than I do and that is a very sensitive subject with me...

Donna: thanks for the welcome. And now I know you have Clairvoyant powers...I will follow with some easy market prediction questions to you in another post, ok?

Thank you for the answers (Yolanda, you are the best...thanks) and for the interest in making our Blogs better.

I will be taking a look at some widgets and doing some adjustments in my page...

I feel using AR is just like when you join the Gym...At first you are a little scared, shy, you don't know where to go, who to talk...as you start to get fit and get confidence, you interact more with others, exercise better (and look at yourself in the mirror with more pride), start going to the "smoothie bar" and with time, even get to know the maintenance people. It hurts in the beginning, but you feel much better later (the Gym hurts, not AR)

I am getting addicted....

I agree - thank you all for the explanations - and Lipe - welcome to Rain. Might I add that is a great photo!  I hate my cheesy headshot and that looks very natural - was it candid or professionaly taken. Were you really reading the newspaper and blogging on your laptop at the same time : ) .... just kidding - really though - great photo.

Marcy: thanks for the comment, I am enjoying the Rain very much

Erika: My Mother was a professional photographer and I used to come from school and stay for hours in the dark room developing B/W pictures, so I got that from my mother.

I take photography quite seriously and have been photographing for years in medium format, 35mm and lately in digital format.

That photo is actually a self portrait that took about 2 hours to take. I took several versions, always trying to be natural (which is difficult when you are trying to read a newspaper, write a blog, drink water, take the photo and whistle at the same time...lol). The most difficult part was once I pressed the timer (lost my remote shutter), I had to run, sit, grab the paper and look natural...not to say I bumped my knee and my pinkie twice. But it was worth it, everybody likes that photo...
