Moose B Saint Jean Baptiste Day in Quebec - Joyeuse fête de la Saint Jean à tous les Québécois!

Montreal, Quebec - January 2010

This is a quick note to all my friends in Quebec, Canada to wish them a happy celebration of la fête de la Saint Jean.  I hear there will be lots of celebrations at Parc Maisonneuve tonight.

The following is my last year's post: Joyeuse fête de la Saint Jean à tous les Québécois!

Gerry in Montreal - January 2010

Note: The photo above were taken in Montreal, Quebec during my last visit.  They both prominently display Quebec's flag with the fleur-de-lis.  The fleur-de-lis is a stylized lily (in French, fleur means flower, and lis means lily) or iris that is used as a decorative design or symbol.

Do you also see any moose in the third photo?  :)

Hi Gerry - Have a very happy Saint Jean Baptiste Day in Red Lodge!

I don't see a moose in the second photo so he must be very well hidden.  However, the third photo contains a moose on the back page of the newspaper.  I think he wants a second 15 minutes of fame as he was been on your blog shortly after you returned from Montréal.

Ես չեմ տեսնում moose երկրորդ photo ուստի նա պետք է լինի շատ լավ թաքնված. Սակայն, երրորդ photo պարունակում է մի moose վրա ետ էջում թերթի. Ես կարծում եմ, նա ուզում է մի երկրորդ 15 րոպե, անուն, ինչպես նա եղել է ձեր սեփական օրագիրը քիչ անց Դուք վերջերս վերադարձել եք Մոնրեալ.

What do you think of my translation of the second paragraph into Armenian (alpha). Is this the Armenian character set?  The words "photo" and "moose" don't seem to have an Armenian translation yet.

Ha, ha, while Marc was writing his comment we were scanning looking for Da Moose also. Hee,hee we found old Bullwinkle under a smiling Red Lodge resident. We wish everyone a la fête de la Saint Jean .. ........... and hope the earthquake there didn't damage the preparations!

Marc,

Your moose spotting is very accurate and you have a good memory!  The moose was indeed in the third photo (the explanation, very simple, is that I inserted a second photo between the first and initially second photo and forgot to change the reference until I read your comment, lol).

It is a little difficult for me to read Armenian characters in the morning but I did it with my first cup of coffee.  I am glad I got both versions/paragraphs so that I can revert to the first one to see the accuracy of the Google translator.   Overall, the translation is moosly good other than the two words you mentioned which did not get translated.   I do know the translation in Armenian for "photo" [it is pronounced "nehgaar" in Armenian and written as "նկար"] (perhaps it did not get translated because it was short for photography, and it might have worked with picture).  However, once more Armenians come to check out my blog, perhaps they will translate the word "moose" and I can get Google to update their translator.  :)

Interestingly enough, Montreal (the last word) was translated (or should I say written in Armenian letters and pronounced the same way in Armenian as in English).   Thanks for giving my eyes some exercise this morning!

Al and Peggy,

The smiling Red Lodge resident says a big "bonjour" from Montreal Montana to the two of you.  After checking with some Montreal residents, the preparation and celebrations de la fête de la Saint Jean went on as scheduled.  :)

Cynthia,

I don't think I will see a real moose in Montreal but maybe some day when I wonder out further out in rural Quebec.   Red is not my favorite color but some winter days, I don't mind being more noticeable than others.  :)

Woo hoo, I was so happy that my high school French allowed me to read and understand the French passages above.  I love the language and when we are in Quebec I always try to converse in French the best I can.

I could always read it better than understand it verbally since people tend to talk too fast.  I remember your moose newspaper.

Very nice post Gerry.
