Trees Are Part of the Property Dance - Maintenance - Part One

Your property is all part of a choreographed dance.   Each part plays a part in the whole.    Without one part, the remaining parts are disfunctional.   Trees are a large part of the dance, and should fit just like the flowers, the green lawn, the freshly painted exterior, and the beautifully updated and decorated interior.  Without a tree on the land, it is barren....

Your property is one of the biggest investments of your entire life, usually.    You purchase a home and land to live in, raise your family, build incredible memories, but in the end, hopefully, you will have saved some money for your retirement.     Perhaps your property is for investment, and you rent it out.   It, in any case, should over time, give you a decent return on your investment.

Trees and their management, are a very large part of your investment.   Trees, if cared for along the way, will be a pleasure to look at, provide shade in the right places, provide privacy,  perhaps provide nuts and seeds for the animals and birds around,  and should fit in with the surroundings.

If you wait too long to take care of your trees, you could end up with a very BIG problem with a VERY LARGE TREE that will cost a lot of money to trim or remove....     Look at your property with a long term eye - assume you will be there 50 years from now.  Do not assume the next owner will take care of it!    You will probably still be there, and instead of a little Tree, you will be removing a very large tree!   Watch this video to learn how big!

Tree maintenance is very important .. and it can be costly if not tended to.. both in terms of huge trees.. and limbs that fall on the house.

Another consideration with trees is their roots.  Roots can impact a house's foundation.  Trees too close to a house can cause problems.

Yes, trees can enhance a property, or end up in the wrong place, and be a problem, as these pines did.   Just got too large and brittle...

Ginny- Great that your son has an arborist's license - send him my way, please

Dagny....Deferred maintenance of any kind can prove very costly.  When it comes to trees which are not properly pruned and cared for, it can be a huge expense.  Good reminder and the video makes the point!

Carra - Thanks for checking in!    We did have a huge bill recently for a tree I wished we had removed when we first bought the place!

Hmmm...Dagny, I have three trees in front of my property, two pine trees and a very large oak...which has been slowly disintegrating with broken limbs falling due to the weather over the last three years...I would actually have it removed, but for the fact that it provides a decent amount of shade for my patio deck...

William, I would have an arborist come in and clean the big one up so you still have your shade, but it gains some health.....

Dagny - there is much to be said for the beauty in ruggeness of the rock and waterfall in the background as well as trees. ..... either one works for me
