Live Your Life to the Fullest. Don't Let Fear Steal Your Destiny |
A little while ago I was reading a post by Jeff Dowler titled "Make Mistakes, and Make Mistakes Often". I highly recommend you read his post! (You may have to scroll down to his post since it's for members only. My link is to his blog.)
As I contemplated, and commented on Jeff's post, I decided to expound on it with this post. And I made this decision because of a personal decision and commitment to which I've held myself for as long as I can remember.
In my comment to Jeff, I stated... "It's amazing how many lessons we learn from our mistakes, although they can be quite embarrassing or painful sometimes. But I guess that's why they leave such a large impression."
In Jeff's post, he addressed how sometimes people will hold themselves back from doing new things, because of a perfectionist nature. (Again, you need to read his post to get the full effect of this.) So my comment continued as such... "Ironically, I tend to be a perfectionist, but am generally not afraid to try new things. I've made it a rule in my life, that if I'm considering doing something, if I feel any fear about doing it, (unless it's a healthy fear), I will force myself to do it. I don't ever want to look back and wish I had done something, knowing the only reason I didn't do it was because of fear."
Why do we fear failure so much? (Pride? Ego?) I believe that especially in the nature of real estate professionals, being in such a competitive field, many of us tend to have this perfectionist nature. And we want to be the best at what we do! But it takes practice and even failure to achieve our personal best. AND, life requires balance. It's not ALL about real estate! (If it is, you need to expand your thinking and discover the many other areas in which you can excel.)
The final part of my comment on Jeff's post was "A life filled with regrets because of missing out on things would really suck!" And that is the reason for this post. Live your life to the fullest. I believe that every one of us has hidden potential locked inside. We are capable of so much more than we even know! So don't let fear hold you back.
- Try new things
- Spend time contemplating, meditating and praying to uncover the hidden potential that's locked inside you.
- When the going gets tough, consider this. Before we can "grow" to the next level in our lives, we have to be prepared for whatever is coming. You must pass a "test" before you can advance. (God is the expert at putting us through this one!)
- Try to "humble yourself", to learn and endure and experience as much as you can from your difficulties. Therein lies the key to your hidden potential.
What fears are holding you back? Have you heard the definition of fear? It's False Evidence Appearing Real. So Activate Your Faith! ...Now what exciting new things are you going to do? Go for it! And you won't look back at your life, and regret the wonderful things you may have missed when you got stuck in one place because you were afraid to move.
Consider this: When water stands still, it becomes stagnant and starts to stink! But moving water is a powerful force. It has a destination. And it pushes obstacles out of it's way. It even erodes away things that are much stronger than itself. (Maybe you need to "erode" some wrong thinking?) WE are like water. We can stand still and become stagnant and stinky (stuck in a rut and headed for failure). Or we can focus on our destination and continue moving forward; all the while finding new paths around the obstacles, and eventually eroding those obstacles out of our way as we push past them.
Consider a rushing stream, or raging rapids, or the power of a waterfall, or all the life that's found hidden beneath the surface of a river. And have a fearless day!
