Passed by the House of Representatives today A bill to extend the authority for the National Flood Insurance Program to extend the program to September 30, 2010. Since the National Flood insurance program expired May 31 Lenders have refused to close loans on properties that required flood insurance, The passage of H.R. 5569 would make flood insurance coverage retroactive and would include all approved applications since that date.

The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.

This is a first step toward helping home buyers to the closing table. We strongly urge the Senate to speed passage of this important bill," said NAR President Vicki Cox Golder, owner of Vicki L. Cox Real Estate in Tucson, Arizona

Dawn,

Yeah, but I am far from being sure that this is a good policy. Developing flood prone areas is environmentally not a good idea, and we will alwasy be paying a price for letting people do it and have the nation to support it

Dawn,

I agree that it would be nice to let more folks purchase homes at this time, but I agree with Jon about continuing to develop those environmentally challenged areas.   On the other hand, there are a lot of borderline areas that are being suddenly included in the flood areas, and those should have flood insurance.   As usual, nothing is black and white....
