This week I attended a Youth Chess Tournament. Who knew that a local club hosts these tournaments and other Chess Training Sessions throughout our very own Santa Clarita Valley?
I have a long history with the game of chess. I grew up playing chess with my uncle, who taught us by lengthy questions during the game: “Why would you move there?” “Who is that blocking?” “Why would you give me that piece, like that? I can take that piece in three moves. .. Move it here and I can get it only two moves.” J I think over the years it was my younger brother who bested him. Must have been a legendary game!
I am happy to be able to bring Chess into my family’s life. For those of you who play know what I mean. The time you take to teach what the pieces are and then how they move. The strategy, the fun! And now to learn that in Santa Clarita Valley there are Chess classes, Chess Tournaments and Chess Socials!!! Yes, Chess Socials pizza and play at Vincenzo’s on Lyons Monday Nights 5:30p-8p.
