(not so) Speechless Sunday ~ What's in a Name...

(not so) Speechless Sunday...
I can remember having to study having to study Shakespeare when I was in college. What can I say? For me, studying "Old English" lit was about as much fun as a sharp stick in the eye. But you mature, <sigh> look backwards and tell yourself; da man with the funny pants and floppy hat was pretty cool after all.
So what's in a name? Would a rose by any other name have the sweet delicate fragrance that excites the senses as its essence wafts on the gentle cool evening breeze? Would a rose by any other name have such a pallet of brilliant sensual colors to choose from? Would a rose by any other name melt and warm the cockles of a woman's heart?
     Nah!!!

a rose by any other name

"O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?" .......one of shakespeare's greatest where that line was stated....."What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other word would smell as sweet;"

Michael, a stick in the eye, LOL. Yes indeed, the man with the floppy hat had lots to say and said it well.

Love your rose picture, I love roses, have quite a few myself.

Barbara, I was thinking about that yesterday when I was working on the roses...

Andrea, Yes, I too have many roses. They do take a lot of work, but the rewards are well worth the effort...

Hi Michael, gorgeous roses! I had Perkins and Jenkins roses years ago. I had them in sandy soid and never fed them. Just watered. They thrived to the point that they grew 6 to 8 feet tall. The box said 2 to 4 feet in growth. Would love to have a rose garden again. Maybe next year :)

YES it would Michael!! Roses are so so beautiful and the smell? Priceless!! BTW you can NEVER have too many roses. After following my Grandfather all those years, I never did learnd his technique that he had with his rose garden. They were lush and hardy and full of blooms & buds, and the smell.... gorgeous. Just don't know the right tricks Michael...have even talked to them!

I'm with Dorie, #6 -- can just about smell your roses! Your garden must be one of the most beautiful around, with roses and your water features. Maybe someday you'll share a video garden walk with us? Wishing you a great week,

Michael, roses are so beautiful.  Ours didn't do so well this year, we only had a couple flowers but they sure were beautiful.

Wish I could get my roses to grow like that.  What is your secret?  Shakespeare was my favorite...and as an English major I had a number of semesters with him.

Still laughing at the stick in the eye

So many colors and types of roses

I bet when the breeze blows the fragrance can fill the yard

Enjoy the day

Michael! Breathtaking shot!

Makes me want to go out and by a dozen long-stem schnotzwallers..well maybe "rose" does make it smell a bit sweeter after all...

I love looking at roses, but I don't want to raise them! I've received many beautiful roses over the years but somehow it seems I always ended up paying for them... if you know what I mean.

A rose is a rose, is a rose. But when photographed as nicely as the ones you've shot here, they just seem to smell a little sweeter, have a bit more vibrancy, and enhance the landscape a little better.

I was never much for Shakespeare when I was a young man, but I have always loved roses.  My mother would gasp in delight when my father brought her roses!
