Speechless Sundays - G20 Summit Protestors Run Amok in Toronto

By
Real Estate Agent with Oikos Realty, Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach Florida

A group of violent protesters ran amok in downtown Toronto Saturday, leaving windows smashed, stores looted and left police cruisers in flames. The Police arrested 130 people within hours. My brother Larry took this photo among others.

John - That is absolutely astounding!  There is much to be angry about in this world.  Sometimes however, I wonder if the targets of that anger are entirely accurate!

Lottie - The rioters picked an area that was less protected and went crazy. It was obviously planned.

Myrl - I think some people are just angry period! I agree that sometimes their choice of targets can be misguided. "No more war" was also written on the bumper. Strange coming from violent thugs.

I just received this email from my brother Larry:

"A total of 3 cop cars were blown up yesterday. Guys in black masks were causing all kinds of damage. Queen street looks like something out of a movie and it was a full blown riot yesterday. I'm getting ready with the camera to head down again today."

John - Yep, there is a bazaar disconnect with having "No more war" folks tearing up Hell and putting a chunk under it in Toronto!  I keep thinking if we could harnass all that anger, we could power a nation with electricity for a year:-)

John, those are great historical photos to have but I feel very sad that protesters feel the need to destroy property and frighten people in order to get their point across.  I love Toronto as I was born there and i feel it is a fantastic city so I hate to see behaviour like this.

At every such global meeting, there is the identical problem.    I remember when it happened in Seattle.   Do these "protesters" just regroup/travel to these destinations, for each such event???

Myrl - Harnessing that anger for good is a nice thought. Do you think anyone will listen? :-(

Karen - I was born in Toronto as well and I'm sure this is upsetting to most Canadians. Terrorists always think of themselves as freedom fighters.

Sea to Sky - I think many of them go from event to event. The police know them and after Saturday, quite a few are in custody right now awaiting their fate in the courts.

John, this is a cool shot, but I don't understand why they think that this sort of protest does anything to validate their cause.  To me it does just the opposite!

Tony and Darcy - I agree. To me it's the same as Right to Life fanatics murdering abortion providers because they are "destroying life". What?!?!

John,

The G20 tends to bring out a very violent type of protester. It's going to be pretty hard to find a country to host it in the future. I read somewhere that Canada spent $1B in security.

Rich - $1B that the country can't afford and I must say, the police are being very generous with their restraint. Even faced with deadly force they did not shoot anyone.

Ruling class? Huh? I believe it's the duty of a police officer to "rule" and keep people safe, and everything running smoothly. So some low-lifes thought some form of anarchy would accomplish anything? I hope they're all found and punished severely!

John, I am not familiar with the G20 - what do they want?

John - I think it must be tea-baggers. After all, isn't that what Pelosi, Reid, MSNBC et are saying, the tea partiers are prone to violence?

It is the same bunch of losers that travel from economic summit to economic summit that have nothing to do but scream inane slogans and destroy property.  They have no plans and no solutions.

Lisa - They arrested many of them but now it's up to the courts. Trying to assemble witnesses could be difficult in some cases.

Maria - The G20 is a group of the world's richest nations. They assemble to decide how to proceed as a group on many issues in the future.

Mike - No tea baggers in Canada - Maybe moose baggers, EH? :-)

Paul - They do get around and you are right. I haven't heard any viable solutions from them.

Jim - They're basically against making the rich richer while the poor get poorer. Read below.

Oust bankers from power

Get rid of corrupt politicians

Guarantee of job, home, future for everyone

Become patriots of the planet, not countries

Stop climate chaos

Make capitalism history
