I attended Rain Camp Chicago specifically to learn more about local Facebook Fan Pages like my Orland Park Living page. I listened to Ben Kinney's presentation but he kind of quickly glossed over the one thing I was interested in learning more about. I wanted a step-by-step tutorial but he had a lot to cover in one afternoon.
So I kept searching and reading about Facebook Fan Pages. I think I even downloaded the "Soci@l" e-book right after the rain camp, but I didn't read it.
I still haven't read the whole e-book yet, but I skimmed over two sections that I thought would fill my needs. The first was "growing your online audience - friends, followers and connections". I was really interested in the chapter on "advertising on social networks - working your haven't mets".
I still want to take the time to really read this entire e-book. But the "Let's Get Soci@l" contest sponsored by Active Rain made me do something about it and got me back to the book.
It also got me to finally delve into advertising my Orland Park fan page. I've been promoting it through my multiple blogs and was stuck at 14 fans. I needed to jump on the FB advertising bandwagon just to see if it would work.
I chose the lowest amount of daily advertising budget allowed. Nothing much happened at first. I even had a couple of clicks but no one "liked" my page!
Got busy with showing and selling real estate and the next time I checked I had 23 fans. Today it jumped to 37. Wow! I just started the ad campaign last week!
Now my question is - how many fans do I want for the page before I stop the ad? I'd like to create at least 1 more local fan page so I do have to share the wealth, or in this case the cost.
And I was finally able to get a short url for my fan page, which is why I started the ad campaign to begin with. I wanted a nice url for print advertising as I'll also be using that to promote the page. I've been waiting patiently for those 25 fans, or "likes", as that is the minimum amount needed to create a short url on FB. Thanks to AR for getting me to do something about it, I finally got it today. Guess I'm a sucker for the chance at an iPad.
