What is meant by Imperial Calcasieu?, was an introduction to the 5 parishes that make up Imperial Calcasieu. Calcaseiu and Cameron have been described already. Next stop, Beauregard Parish.
Beauregard Parish was formed out of the north area of Imperial Calcasieu Parish. It is to the North of Calcasieu Parish and was named for P.G.T Beauregard, a Confederate general.
Next to Calcasieu Parish, I suspect that the most activity in the Southwest Louisiana Association of REALTORS Multiple Listing Service, especially land and residential properties, will be found in Beauregard Parish.
The parish seat is DeRidder which is about a 50 minute drive north of Lake Charles. The next largest town is Merryville. The village of Ragley has enjoyed significant real estate activity over the past several years, especially for those searching for a rural, generally wooded setting.
Located along Hwy 171, Ragley is truly in the "path of progress" and is less than 30 minutes from Lake Charles. Other communities in Beauregard Parish include Singer, Dry Creek, Sugartown, Longville, and Graybow.
Like all of Southwest Louisiana, fishing, hunting, and plenty of water recreation activities are available. The Louisiana side of the very popular Toledo Bend area is an easy drive from DeRidder.
Toledo Bend is the 5th largest man-made lake in the United States. From fishing and boating to camping, hunting and just plain sightseeing, Toledo Bend is a tremendous asset to the the area. Toledo Bend is in the neighboring parish of Sabine, but all of Southwest Louisiana enjoys this magnificent 186,000 acres lake. Cypress Bend is a popular golf and fishing resort.
Schools are under the direction of the Beauregard Parish School Board and you can learn more about the library system here.
According to WikiPedia's page dedicated to Beauregard, Ragley boasts 12 Historic Places listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
