Bryan and College Station are welcoming a new school choice for the Brazos Valley this year; Harmony School System.  Harmony has been operating in Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Fort Worth, Beaumont, Lubock and Waco and are now making their debute in Aggieland.

Harmony has won many awards.  Harmony Houston is one of two Texas Schools and one of 52 U.S. Schools to receive a National Distinguished School Recognition Award.  Harmony Houston is also one of a very few exemplary high schools in Texas. Consistantly all Harmony Schools outpace Texas Schools in the TAKS test subjects, typically by large margins. 

Extra curricular activities, absent in many charter schools, come  to life here with Web Mastering, Yearbook, Home Arts, Theater Arts, Awuatic Science, Math League, Sociology, Multiculturalism, Video Production, Journalism, Sculpure, Psychology, Reading & Movies, Drawing, Frenchm Digital Graphics, Animation, Board Games, Wrestling, Student Council, Movies, Drama, Cheerleading, Math Counts, Baseball, Soccer, Folk Dance, Volleyball, Basketball, and Arts and Crafts offered.

Field Trips are high on the list withthe school in Dallas offering a 15 day trip in Europe; Germany, France, Belguium, Holland and Turkey.

Harmony's "Building Blocks of Success" include, individual attention, diagnostic tests, monitord progress, resarch projects, regorous Math and Science classes as well as electives, Logic computer based Math and Science, Partnership with universities, dual credit program, AP Courses, visits to college campuses and home visits.

Harmony, what a nice sounding system. I know you're probably too young, but I remember the Beach Boy's song, .."Be true to your school". Sounds like this is a great addition to your community.

I think charter schools are a great concept.  North Carolina limits the number allowed by state law so we don't have this option in our area.  More choice is almost always a good thing - I hope the new Harmony school is a success in the College Station area.

With so many public schools dropping most elective classes, it should prove a great draw for people.  Sometimes you have to think outside the box to get kids to go to school!  Bryan and College Station are lucky to have them come to town.
