We are very lucky to be so close. But, then how often do we take the time to drive and see this natural wonder? Maybe this is the year to do it with a staycation.
With more than 1.2 million acres and 277 river miles long, the Grand Canyon offers a basketful of interesting things to see and do. And wonder.
Here are many fun, challenging and favorite things to do when you plan for and then get there.
For example, there are more than 200 miles of trails to explore that are up, down and to the side of the canyon. Maybe the most favorite is Bright Angel Trail which is also the most popular in Arizona. Maybe popular does not translate into quiet majesty and deep contemplation.
The highest scenic overlook point is Point Imperial that is at 8,800 ft elevation. There are views you cannot find elsewhere of Saddle Mountain Look and Mount Hayden.
Or, you can opt for the classic mule trip that will make you feel like an old time cowboy. Or, at least your seat will feel a little saddle sore for the ‘real effect'. You can find a day trip with your friendly mule for less than $150.
So, plan now and get ready for the trip you have been thinking about. This would work for those on very tight 2010 budgets. World travelers come to Grand Canyon every year. Don't miss out on what they are telling their friends and family about all around the world about the wild west and one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World.
