The Tempe Elementary School District offered several projects for those entering Grades 1-3 in a summer program named Run by the Sun. This is a new summer science class offered to students in Tempe AZ. Kids at Broadmor Elementary School recently tried out their hands-on class projects.
Science Teacher Jason Vander Kamp was teaching a very popular class on building solar cars and other devices that use wind and other ideas in renewable energy sources. Classes that use robotics and computers fill up fast.
Children can have complex concepts introduced to them which presents a comprehensive education that some are anxious for. Parents are looking for more intense classes to occupy their children's imagination and give their minds a jump to another level.
Since the future is tied so much to computers and technology, kids need to be introduced to science as soon as possible. Swim lessons and dance classes are valuable, but so is the challenge of a science class made fun.
So what was one of the class projects? Build a solar oven with a shoebox an aluminum foil. How to test it? Of course! Graham crackers and a bar of chocolate that combined with just the right amount of free energy and heat from the sun = tasty ‘smores.
