We spent Father's Day weekend in Charleston, SC and while there had a chance to reconnect with one of Virginia's "hometown" friends from her growing up years in Bluefield, WV.
As it turns out, her friend, Bill Douglas, is the owner of Design Builders and the source of some of the most beautiful custom built homes in Charleston. What fun to talk real estate from a whole different perspective.
Bill was recently featured in Charleston Home + Design magazine for a home they built in the Poplar Grove subdivision off Savannah Highway.
One of the nicest things about this article was the positive relationship that Bill and his wife Debbie were to develop with the owners. Far from being one of those nightmare scenarios about the builder or the owner from hell, this project was all about collaboration.
In fact, collaboration is a theme in all of Bill's work. Two of his sons, Eric and Kevin, work with him in the business. Eric is a talented carpenter and specializes in the fine details of interior woodworking. Kevin, a Clemson graduate, takes on the public face of the company to assure customer satisfaction. Bill is also generous in his praise of his subcontractors.
Although traditional low country architecture is a predominant theme, Bill and his crew can build anything a homeowner wants or need.
