The House of Representatives voted today 6/29/2010 to extend the Closing Date of the Current Tax Credit for First Time Home Buyers until September 30, 2010.
The Bill will still need to be voted and approved by the Senate before it becomes law.
Update 6/30 Senate Vote
The Senate voted unamimously yesterday to approve the extension. It had attempted to include the extension with unemployment benefits legislation, but that measure failed to pass. eventually passing the Tax Credit Extension as a stand alone measure.
The Bill still needs to be signed by the President prior to becoming law.
It is reported that there are as many as 180,000 Buyers with Contracts that were signed prior to the April 30th, 2010 deadline that would be unable to Close, and thus qualify for the Credit by the current deadline of June 30th.
