A few days ago, I provided insight to the questions "What is meant by Imperial Calcasieu?" and "Why does Louisiana have parishes instead of counties?"

Today, it is time to highlight Jefferson Davis Parish, one of the 5 parishes that make up Imperial Calcasieu. "Jeff Davis Parish" was founded in 1912 and has 5 incorporated cities:Jefferson Davis Parish

  • Jennings (parish seat)
  • Elton
  • Fenton
  • Lake Arthur
  • Welsch

There are also several unincorporated areas. A few of the better known are Hathaway, Roanoke, and Lacassine (home of the picturesque Lacassine Bridge).

Named for the President of the Confederacy during the Civil War, Jefferson Davis Parish is located to the East of Calcasieu Parish.

The population in 2010 was 31,435.

It is part of the Jennings Micropolitan Statistical Area and the Lake Charles-Jennings Combined Statistical Area. Like Calcasieu, I-10 runs through the parish.

Jennings boast an airport convenienty located near I-10 that can land a small jet.

Schools are operated by the Jefferson Davis Parish School Board and the library system is operated by the Jefferson Davis Parish Library system. There are 3 libraries within the parish.

Jeff Davis Parish falls within the Southwest Louisiana Association of REALTORS MLS system, which means I can assist you with buying or selling!
