County residents thinking about starting or expanding a business in Transylvania County have an opportunity to enter a business development competition this summer that will offer a $10,000 cash prize for the winning business plan and its successful implementation.
This will be the second year for the competition sponsored by the Transylvania Partnership, a local non-profit organization that helps new and existing businesses create jobs and increase business investment. The objective of the contest is to encourage, recognize and reward current and prospective business owners who are Transylvania County residents and who choose to start or expand a business in the community.
This year there will be a single prize of $10,000. Up to 25% of this amount will be awarded immediately for the winning business plan; the balance will be awarded later for successful implementation of the plan. The business plan submittals and the subsequent implementation results will be evaluated by an Awards Committee comprised of representatives of the Transylvania County Senior Resource Network, the Brevard chapter of SCORE, Blue Ridge Community College, Brevard College, and other organizations approved by the Transylvania Partnership. The deadline for applications is September 30, 2010, and the winner will be announced by the Transylvania Partnership in October.
