The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, we get to celebrate the fact that we live in a free nation. Add to that the part where I get to spend some time with the people I care about and catch up. Then add the part where generally the festivities involve loud celebratory explosions and fireworks, and well, it is just the proverbial icing on the red, white and blue cake.
The Freedom Fest will be held in downtown St Cloud from 2:00 to 10:00pm. At 8:00pm the St Cloud Municipal Band will hold a concert at Hester Park. The St Cloud fireworks display is the 2nd largest in Minnesota and begins about 10:00pm with the launch point in Wilson Park. There will be reserved seating for Military and their families.
Wilson Park is on the east side of the Mississippi River and it offers plenty of space for viewing the display, but on the other side of the river is even more area for viewing at Hester Park and all along the rivers edge all the way into downtown St Cloud. Many people walk out onto one of the bridges and get a great view as well, only with less noise! For me the the shock wave, the noise and the light reflecting off of the river increases my enjoyment of the fireworks.
This year, the 2010 St Cloud July 4th Fireworks, 63rd Anniversary Freedom Fest, will have a simulcast of synchronized music on radio station 98.1 FM. Pyrotechnic Display will conduct the show. While some communities have cut back on the Independence Day celebrations, due to the cost, St Cloud businesses have solicited contributions to keep the tradition going strong
As a kid the 4th of July was always exciting to me. We always started early with a good breakfast, before it became to hot outside. Then it was off to St Joseph for the parade which was and still is the greatest 4th of July parade you can attend. The St Joseph Parish Festival, includes food and games and live music, this year is Smoke N Gun, followed by a quilt auction at 2:00 and a raffle at 5:00.
St Cloud MN, we are lighten up the sky on the 4th of July! Come join us!
