Texting Ban in Georgia Begins Today !
Senate Bill 360 and House Bill 23, both of which address cell phone usage while driving, takes effect today, July 1, 2010.
Senate Bill 360 seeks "to prohibit persons 18 years of age or older from using wireless telecommunications devices for sending or receiving text messages while operating a motor vehicle," according to the Georgia General Assembly's website. Drivers caught texting while driving will be fined $150 and get one point on their license. This also includes internet usage.
Texting while stopped at a traffic light or stop sign is also prohibited. In addition, teens under 18 years old are not allowed to talk on their cell phone while driving. Georgia State Patrol is allowing a 30 day adjustment period to get used to the restrictions but strict enforcement will begin by August 1, 2010.
