So is this home On the Way to Green? Well, it can be a challenge "greening" older homes but they do have one basic Green Feature in common: They are established and buying one does not involve "breaking ground" and destroying part of the environment! This home has mature landscaping that is what I call "Weather Resistant". It does have lawn, so choices have to be made to reduce watering and avoiding chemicals. Easy things to add would be rain barrels and drip irrigating.
Fun features are the "Outdoor Clothes Dryer" or clothes line for Energy Savings and naturally sweet smelling laundry. And the horse-shoe pit on the upper terrace - going green with exercise? or just fun :-)
Inside potential Green Features are the hardwood floors that make for easier cleaning, daylighting from the windows, and a well maintained interior. Minimum use of carpeting cuts down on accumulated dust & such things as dust mites that vacuuming doesn't get - thus improving Indoor Air Quality. Homes recently painted and refinished may have chemical off gassing, so it is often good to give them a good "airing out".
This home is in "Move Right IN" condition, but in time you may want to make some Green Upgrades. Here are a couple of links for Green Tax Credits and Rebates: IRS and Energy Star. This home is in Snohomish County, but this link to Green Remodeling in King County has information for everyone: the Eco-Cool Remodel Tool
The walk score for this home is 62.
Come to this Open House for a tour and discussion of Going Green in Edmonds!
PS: I am new to blogging and this is my first post. My specialty in Real Estate is Green Homes and Sustainable living. In future posts I will be discussing how and why we all should be "On the Way to Green". In the world of Green, I consider my self a novice in spite of the many classes and workshops I have attended, so don't expect me to be an expert. Up Next: How I sold my mom's "On the Way to Green" home and more discussion about making older homes Greener.
