Would the virtual YOU like to meet the real YOU? Life lessons from a slow learner.

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

The real and virtual personae of the blogger! One of the greatest ancillary benefits of writing a daily blog post is that I have crafted a non-confrontational style of communication.

In order to appeal to the broadest range of readers, it is essential to present information in a manner that is not only informative, but also in a way that is not condescending of offensive.

The result is the genesis of an online persona that is familiar to those that are kind enough to regularly peruse these pages.

The problem is that I have a little trouble when it comes to applying these passive personality principles to the offline world of genuine human interaction.

I have also had a must-win attitude accompanied by a fiery temperament and I have to really work hard at suppressing my urge to pounce on any prey that happens to stand in my way.

I have come to realize that I have an incredible amount of time invested in solidifying an online image of compassion, understanding, and credibility. And so it would be foolhardy to extinguish the authoritative aura of a calm demeanor with a reactionary outburst!

So blogging has not only enhanced my online celebrity.

It has actually made me a better person! One post at a time.

Richard- I really think it would be like looking in the mirror.  Sometimes I don't write for the broader base and figure... like me or don't.  take it or leave it...

Which is why I'm glad I work lead conversion in my office and place some buyers with other agents that are a better fit than me working with them.

I think that since we are in the real estate or related industry, we are for the most part, we are all mostly Type "A" personalities, and we want to take control of any situation.

However, sometimes it's interesting to sit back and listen, and all of the fantastic comments seem to indicate that my situation is not much different from the norm!

Richard, really good insite. I tend to be a LITTLE firey myself offline and sometimes thats reflected in my writing which is probably not a really good thing. However for me what you see online is what you get offline.

Words are so powerful, and there's a way to say something in the non-confrontational way.  The written word has a life of its own.  What's on paper is read, and interpreted by the reader -- not by the writer.  Few realize that.

I am full Italian and believe me it's not easy to contain my emotions.  I grew up in a family that talked over one another and every other day there was some arugment that had to be settled.  So you see Richard, it's good to have emotion and passion and even a little temper....as long as they can be served up in the right place.  I am what I am but, I try to be pleasant because it doesn't cost a penny.  Look forward to your posts.

Hi Richard~  I am Italian also.  My mother full blooded.  So, I can totally relate to the tempermant you are speaking of.  There are times that I have to really hold back from saying just what I think!  It is much easier to do in writing than it is in person!

If only we could control those real life situations as much as we can our online personality!!! We set the tone in our blogs - but offline, there's always somebody shaking things up!

Hi Richard...What a thought provoking post.  As I was reading it I thought to myself, this deserves to be featured.  I'm so glad it was.

I hadn't thought about it before but now that I am, I guess I pretty much say what I think most of the time whether blogging or face to face.  However, someone that knows me well might see some difference.  Interesting topic.

P.S.  I'm 3/4 Irish so I guess fiery could apply to me on occasion.  I can get riled up if I think someone is not being treated fairly.  Well, enough true confessions!

I think that the real meaning of what you are saying is often lost in writing. It's much easer in person to say what you really feel I think.

Its interesting.  I never thought of you as firey at all.  I'm thought of as that way in my posts, but am not like that in person.

I tend to get a little too political in many of my posts.  I make it no secret I don't care for our current administration in charge.  After all a blog is a representation of your personality.

Richard,  Some of us are more type A than others...I agree that blogging is a concerted effort, and the smart agents will learn to apply what they learn will composing and publishing their blogs to their real estate business!
