Fourth of July celebrations are great for people but the loud noises and bright lights that accompany fireworks can be frightening to your pets. Below are a few rules I saw in a newsletter from my Veterinarian that I believe are both helpful and practical.
1) If you go to fireworks display, leave your pet at home where he will be safe and comfortable
2) If you must take your pet with you to fireworks, do not leave him in the car. A car with partially open window does not provide enough circulating fresh air .
3) Don't leave your pet outside. However, if you can not bring them inside, cover there house or kennel with a blanket to reduce the bright light and loud noise that will annoy your pet. Also, keep the windows and blinds closed
4) Some pets become destructive when frightened. Remove any items in the area your pet might destroy or hurt themselves on.
5) Turn on a TV or radio at a normal level to distract your pet and keep them company. This should help them to relax.
