My Near Death Experience on July 4th....

Every year since 1970, Atlanta has closed down the main artery through town to host the country's largest 10K run. Known as the Peachtree Road Race, each year thousands of runners (and wanna be runners) participate and are awarded with a free t-shirt at the finish line.

Thousands of spectators line the sidewalks through town to cheer the runners on. That really does motivate the runners on. As a previous participant, I can remember thinking "this must be what it feels like to be a professional athelete" with all the cheering going on.

This year I plan to be a spectator, & will be cheering loudly, especially when my daughter goes by. Last year I was a participant in the race, & I think the following pictures tell the story of my near death experience....

I know that to many runners a 10K run is a piece of cake, a mere walk in the park compared to the marathons and such that they have become accustomed to. But it almost did me in. Like I said earlier, this year I'm a cheerleader, and will raise a toast to those passing by in the Atlanta heat and humidity.

HERE'S TO YOU, ALL YOU HARD CORE RUNNERS!

Enjoy your 2010 4th of July.

Not much of a runner myself.  I will join you raising my drink to all those motivated runners running through the streets of Hotlanta.
