Excitement is in the air for all ages anticipating the wonderful display of fireworks that are going to take place at Lakeside Park in Pell City at sunset on Sunday, July 4, 2010.
After a fun filled day, enjoying the first of several parties I am attending with friends on this long holiday weekend, I drove past this beautiful location that I stopped at to savor the moment. While I was doing this, I reflected back on the reason why our great nation was celebrating this holiday. Our independence from Great Britain gave us this wonderful land of the free. With this freedom came sacrifices of human lives. The cost of our freedom to families who lost their love ones in battle is indescribable.
The Declaration of Independence was signed 234 years ago in 1776. Since that day this country has celebrated July 4th. While you are enjoying your BBQ with your friends and family or while you are sitting at Lakeside Park in Pell City watching the fireworks, take a moment and say a prayer for all the service men and women who are away from their families defending our freedom.
