Troop 910 Parker / Highlands Ranch Colorado Boy Scouts 2010 National Jamboree

Troop 910 Parker/Highlands Ranch Colorado Boy Scouts prepare for the 2010 National Jamboree. This 100^th Anniversary of scouting is a gathering of scouts from across the United States and the world over a ten day period. The event offers activities for thousands.  The Jamboree is being held from July 26^th - August 4^th, 2010 at Fort A.P. Hill near Fredericksburg, Virginia and will celebrate the first 100 years of scouting in america.

Since 1937, the Boy Scouts of America have gathered on average of every 4 years. The very first jamboree was held in Washington DC and hosted nearly 28,000 Boy Scouts.  This year's 2010 bicentennial jamboree event will host over 43,000 Boy Scouts with nearly 300,000 members of the general public visiting.  Boy Scout Troop 910 in Parker/Highlands Ranch Colorado will be sending over 30 scouts.

To attend,  is both intensive and extensive and started in Highlands Ranch Colorado over a year ago. The process includes application to medical evaluation to final approval from the local council. The final contingent from Parker /Highlands Ranch Colorado is Troop 910.

These Boy Scouts participate in the logistics of finance, fundraising, training, transportation, touring and other functions when needed. Many of the Boy Scouts from Troop 910 in Parker/ Highlands Ranch Colorado have participated in fundraisers to include popcorn, beef jerky, Christmas wreath, candle sales to include large event booth sales at car shows and 4^th of July events. Each Boy Scout was responsible in raising over $2,500.

Some of the traditions to the jamboree include camp site gateways and patch trading. Each troop is assigned a campsite that features an elaborate gateway or display that is built by the Boy Scouts and is representative of the state they are from. Previous displays have included a shark mouth to the San Francisco Bridge. Additionally, each troop has a special patch or even a series of patches made for the jamboree. Patches are traded amongst the Scouts from across the United Sates and the world.

Boy Scouts from all over the world attend this event. In fact, Boy Scout Troop 910 in Parker / Highlands Ranch Colorado will be partnered with Boy Scouts from both Russia and Panama. When the Boy Scouts were asked,  How are you going to communicate and over come the language barriers? The immediate response was we have an app (application) for that. Gotta love technology.
