Auburn Public Library, MaineThe Auburn Public Library, located near downtown Auburn Maine, is truly the center of the community.  The library consistently offers not only a great selection of books, videos, DVDs, and periodicals, but also a jam packed schedule of events and activities for all ages.

I just heard about this great program that is actually in it's third year and wanted to share it as just one more example of the wonderful "goings on" of the Auburn Public Library.

APL PresentsEach year a group of young artists and writers, ages 11-14, working on their own time after school, produce an original comic book entitled APL Presents.

The program is lead by comic book artist Mike Jordan and sponsored by the Auburn School Department's Community Learning Center and Auburn Public Library.

The photo below points out the room the students toiled away in on their project.  They have dubbed the room "the Dungeon."

Kristen....that's pretty neat.....I think there are more nice projects like that in Maine than where I live....only in Maine.....the folks in your town should be very proud of those teens and the instructors who get involved in this project....

Barbara, it does seem like everytime I turn around, I see another activity or project here.  I think part of it is due to the rural nature of the state.  Mainers are accustomed to amusing themselves and tend to get quite creative with their recreational activities.  The Library already added a great teen area, but it has become so popular that they are now expanding it and adding another teen activity area upstairs.  Construction is underway as we speak.  We may lack the big zoos or amusement parks, but there is no shortage of things to do.

and they are quality things to do.....I think kids in Maine have a great advantage over others.....they are very lucky and may not even realize it.

You're right, I'm sure they don't.  The climate, attitudes, and lifestyle are all reasons that we came here.  I have been to almost every state in the union and lived in many.  There are lots of great places in our country, but Maine was the only place I wanted to be.  I am always surprise when people here yearn to live somewhere else.  I think all young adult Mainers should go out and see the world, then they will most likely return here to settle, knowing full well what they have here.
