"I Want that Parking Spot Close to the Door" - But At the Gym??

By

I always find it a little odd when someone is waiting for my parking space that is 20 feet closer to the door than the next parking space, and WE ARE AT THE GYM. Do you find that odd? Aren't they there for the exercise?

I can understand if it is pouring rain, I can understand if it is 20 degrees below zero, which happens here in MN, but on a beautiful sunny summer day?

It has happened twice this week. In fact 2 days ago I was standing on the passenger side of my car, reading my emails on my Blackberry (I don't text/email and drive) when I heard a honk, honk, honk. I ignored it for a bit assuming it had nothing to do with me but then it came again, honk, honk. I could tell it was close by so I looked. Parking Lot

Low and behold there was a car waiting for my spot and honking at me to get me to leave. I wasn't in the driver's seat with the reverse lights on, I was standing outside my car on the passenger's side!! I couldn't believe it.

I ignored the honker but he kept on, and sat and waited. I got kind of creeped out so I got in and left. Get this, there was another parking spot 4 slots away. Did the gentleman realize he was at the gym to get exercise?? Would the extra few feet of walking perhaps saved him a couple of minutes on the treadmill inside the gym doors?

I don't know, it just gets me shaking my head.

Shar, people are lazy like that. At Christmas, people will spend half an hour looking for a spot 5 minutes closer to the mall entrance.

Shar, that driver was rude.  He has no right to rush you just because you're leaving.  Everyone in the lot is leaving at some point.  Does that make it OK to decide when the spot should be vacated?

I might have been tempted to walk away from my car and head back towards the gym as if I had forgotten something.   Impatience will only shorten your life :-)

Shar, I've seen that, too, and think it's funny.  You're at the gym, geez, a few extra steps to walk is good for ya!

Pure lazy! I park the FURTHEST parking space no matter where I'm at for the nice little walk with my kids plus I park to keep my vehicle from getting dents:)

Things like that make you scratch your head.  I have a friend that will hop on his riding lawn mower to mow his .25 acre yard, then spend the next hour on a treadmill.

Shar- come to South Florida, it happens in every parking lot.  My husband and I walk every morning at the Green Cay Wetlands.  There's a boardwalk and it's a great place for walkers.  You're there to walk, right? Well, same thing happens here.  People will park as close as they can or even in the handicapped spots (when clearly they're not!)  And, yes, I've had people wait and hold everyone else up just trying to get a spot closer to the door, when there are spots just 3 of 4 cars further away.  I think it's something like a game "Whoever gets closer wins!"  Oh yes, we're in sunny Florida.  No cold weather here!

I guess that would be like not wanting to get rained on when you are swimming?

Joan, I know......things shouldn't surprise me about people anymore.

Malcolm, isn't that the truth!

He WAS rude Maggie, and annoying!

Cindy, can you imagine living with someone like that?

Pamela, it still makes me giggle to think about it :)

Good for you LaNita.......and I understand about the door dings.

Allen, I know. And wouldn't they rather be outside getting the exercise? Bet he looks silly on a riding mower with that small of a yard.

I did that once Tim but he wouldn't go away! I should have waited to see how long he really would have stayed there honking. Too funny.

You are right Kathy, maybe it is a game. I never thought of that.

Ha, I do Aqua Aerobics most mornings Richard and in the summer months it is in the outdoor pool. When it starts to rain we just keep on going (unless there is lighting). It is refreshing.....and you are already wet. Some people do leave though.

Rude...he was very rude.  He must have been watching since you exited the building otherwise how would he know you were leaving and hadn't just arrived.  I agree with Cindy...walking away from the car would have been something I would have considered doing.

Amazing!  Is it just me, or are manners and common courtesy dwindling?  This guy would probably blow his stack if someone honked at him to get him to move!

Sharon, I think I was too stunned to move!

I agree Pat, common courtesy seems to be rare these days.
