A Hidden Gem At The Bridges On The River...Where's Indiana Jones?

I just did a post about The Bridges On The River subdivision in Huntsville Alabama and had I few extra photos that I want to share.  I thought I was familiar enough with this area and that nothing I found would surprise me, well, I was mistaken.  Hidden at the end of the subdivision and down a gravel road I found a private area enjoyed by and for the exclusive use of the residents of The Bridges On The River.  I remember the first thing that came to my mind when I discovered this place was..."Where's Indiana Jones"?

Remnants of the old L & N railroad

Where's Indy?

Support almost hidden by the Kudzu

Supports for the old L & N railroad crossing

What's the date you see?

Can you see what the date is on this railroad track support?

Are you moving to Huntsville or Madison Alabama area and need an agent that knows  the area...why don't you let me Google that for you.

Nick - Monuments to a civilized past covered with vines and shrubs takes me back to the scenes of a defunct Washington DC from the  movie "Logan's Run" with a young Michael York. Nice photos.

It looks like 190 - something.  What a great find.  Just the type of places I like to explore with my dog and my camera.

Tony & Darcy-wish I could tell you...I couldn't read it either.

Jackie-thanks...I actually thought it read 1900-03 or 08...can't be sure.

Lee & Pamela-it does look like 1800, but I don't know.  I did some research on the L & N, but couldn't find dates for that area.

Steve-Kudzu it is...we have a lot of it here.

Cynthia-I was kind of like a kid again...exploring was the sort of thing I always used to do and this place was perfect for it.

Craig-I agree and not something found in many neighborhoods.

Suzanne-that's right and Logan was the Sandman...I forgot all about that movie...I think it came out the year I graduated high school...seems like yesterday!

Jenny-well get your dog and come on down and explore, however, I'd wait until it cools off just a bit!

George-good idea and perhaps I'll cast you as George of the Jungle???

Debra-I'm sorry, but you're getting just a little personal...don't you think!!  Why don't you come on down and find out???...did I ask you before if your husband reads these posts???

Nick -- what fun to happen upon such an interesting local spot.  I think the date is "180x" and I like how the vines have grown over one of the concrete structures.

Maureen-I really can't tell exactly what the date is, but I guess it doesn't matter...I did have fun looking around this place.

Karen-it was a rail line and as for what happened to it?  I think that might be material for a future post.

Pretty cool find Nick. Before you said what it looked like up close and personal, we thought maybe 1901 or 1902...great caption you put on it. You could have played Mr. Jones if you were wearing the right hat!

Nick:

I think Indy has retired but these photoes are quite striking. Does that date read "1902?"

Looks like 1902 to me. For that year in Huntsville, it was probably a Southern Railway trestle with a small probability of being for the North Carolina & St. Louis Railway. Southern, however, was prevalent in Huntsville in 1902.

Al & Peggy-it was a great find and place to explore...up close it looked like 190?...can't be sure, but the L & N was first chartered in 1850.  I forgot may hat at home.

Ann-thanks for dropping by!

Claudette-Indy has retired, but never say never...looked like 190??

Russel-it was the Louisville & Nashville Railway first chartered by the state of Kentucky in 1850.  It operated as a freight and passenger service and survived the civil war and the great depression.  The L & N operated for 132 years.
