Robert - I totally agree with you on this. We appreciately and value the things that we work and strive for much more that something just handed to us. I see this even at early ages with children- they are proud of the things they earn and put effort into.
Kathleen, of course the answer to the three questions is no, no, no. Also, mortgage interest deduction encourages high mortgages, not home ownership. A revenue-neutral change to an annual tax credit to homeowners makes more sense.
I dont know where people came up with the idea that everything should be handed to them on a silver platter...
When does it end? At what point does the Nanny state (or better yet the 53% of the citizens who actually pay taxes) finally say enough?
I am suggesting this one I would love to hear the thoughts from more of the AR community.
Kathleen, I think the American Dream of home ownership has been mixed up and people think it should be a right... It is this twisted view that has us in the mess that we are in now.... Places like ACORN etc that pushed to get people into their own homes at all costs, with out any thought for how they will pay for it.
It is a DREAM, something to look forward to and work and save towards.... It should NOT be handed out like halloween candy.
