What's the Difference Between a Blog and a "News Column"?

Surely this can be explained to me, so please help!

To me, these are essentially the same thing. For example, I found an interesting article online:

http://finance.yahoo.com/real-estate/article/109359/in-sour-home-market-buying-often-beats-renting?mod=realestate-buy

Now if you read this article, it is pretty clear (at least to me) that the author is for "renting" and not for buying. And by choosing one side over the other, doesn't that constitute an opinion?

I'm for buying {duh}, so clearly I've made a choice as well. That's my right, but I'm writing a blog. You'll get to comment with your opinion Basically, this becomes a series of opinions and can, if used properly, open up some interesting dialog. But am I wrong? And if so, then what is a blog?

Again, I'm sure someone much wiser will be able to explain this to me, but an op-ed, a blog, or a column in which the writer clearly states they're feelings and opinions... I just don't see the difference.

Okay, where's the remote?

Thanks Michael. I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or just completely empty inside?
