No this isn't an official Hallmark Card event but you never know it might catch on at least on Active Rain.
I was making phone calls to check in on friends in my business referral network and came to realize that a number of the other professionals that we work with are also impacted by our slowing market. These are not folks who have worked primarily in the sub-prime market and they didn't start companies in the last few years to take advantage of the real estate boom. Instead these are professionals who have worked to support agents and their clients in trying to make a real estate transaction as smooth as possible for everyone involved. They also work on a commission basis or own their own business that depends on the flow of income from real estate clients.
None of the folks that I talked with were complaining about their circumstances but it was obvious that they were feeling the pinch financially and emotionally. With one mortgage professional she had been left with loans ready to close when AMS folded and even though she had other options she was working through, she was taking the brunt of the "ill will" of not only from the buyers but the sellers and their agents as well. They all blamed her personally for the failure of the mortgage company and let her know that it was ALL HER FAULT! So besides offering a professional ear for her to talk to I decided that I also need to take her to lunch. I needed to thank her for the work that she had done not only for me but for the other agents who were to busy pointing the finger to realize that she wasn't the cause of the mortgage company going bust.
Next week I'm going to take my favorite Home Inspector to lunch. Who is in your network that is feeling the impact of this market and might need a little "cheering-up"? When the market recovers in your area the other professionals that we work with will remember whether you were there for them or to busy lamenting your own situation to take a moment to check in on them.
