Hakuna Matata

This past weekend my 20 year old daughter moved 2800 miles to pursue additional education and different social opportunities. Even though it was way past time for her to move on and out I have felt a twinge of sadness. Changes in season and for the first time in my life I wandered where the time went. In this thoughtful state I went to my entertainment center and pulled out the movie the Lion King.

It has been years since I watched this movie and as I did so there were some insights that I was reminded of and wanted to share with you:

1. Hakuna Matata means no worries

It is important to keep a balanced perspective. Sometimes I have a tendency to worry so much about things that are out of my control that those things that are within my control get neglected. Having faith that the worries will work out is more empowering than letting fear overrun us.

2. Not shirking our responsibilities

We each have responsibilities. They may be to family, significant others, brokers, customers and any number of other groups. We also have a responsibility to ourselves to live up to our highest potential. If we honor those responsibilities our worries often will diminish and in some instances disappear.

3. We all need one another

I have come to learn the statement No Man is an Island to be profound and full of truth. We need one another to achieve our goals and to realize happiness. When I step out of my self-centered psyche and look for ways to help another individual my sense of well being increases.

As changes in seasons come both professionally and personally remembering guiding principles will help us weather that change and experience profitability and happiness.

Thanks for your thoughts, very timely, as my oldest daughter will be heading to college this fall for the first time.

Haven't seen the movie in years, but can remember watching it with my son when he was young. He too heads back to college next week and I aways hate to see him leave, but like you know it's time.
