James Island, SC Local Information James Island has some of the most sought after housing in all of Charleston due to its close distance to downtown Charleston and also the beach. Location is just one of James Island’s most important selling points. It is possible to take the James Island Connector over the harbor to downtown Charleston in about 5-10 mins. Folly Beach is a most desired amongst local people and is within a 5-15 minute drive. Because James Island is easily the most accessible suburb to and from downtown Charleston, it has a very good rental market. It’s usually the most notable selection of spots to call home for College of Charleston, MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina), and Charleston School of Law students. As a result, property investors often pick the condos and townhouses on James Island for investment purposes. Nevertheless, a lot of the people on James Island aren't students. Single family detached houses make up a lot of real estate property options. Local neighborhoods are sprinkled throughout the island, but a large number of are located off Harbor View Road (which runs parallel to the Charleston Harbor), Riverland Drive (which runs alongside the back of James Island), and Fort Johnson Road (which is perpendicular and divides the island in half). James Island has become gradually developed over the past five decades, so almost all of the properties available for sale are older (built prior to the year 2000). These older homes are fantastic for buyers wanting larger lot sizes along with buyers and investors who don’t mind making cosmetic renovations. New construction homes are also available on James Island, but these makeup a smaller percentage in the current homes for sale. Newer neighborhoods include Eaglewood Retreat, Jamestowne Village, Lakeside Village, Lawton Harbor, Ocean Neighbors, Seaside Plantation, Westfield Place, Bayview Farms, and Woodward Pointe. The public schools on James Island are second only to Mt. Pleasant inside the Charleston County School District. James Island was the first public high school in South Carolina to convert to being a Charter school. With approximately 1,500 students, it is now the biggest Charter high school inside the southeast. Students can choose from a variety of after school activities and clubs, including sailing, engineering, yoga, surfing, French, and Spanish. James Island Charter High School also has a great athletic program. As well as the usual football and basketball, the school also offers sports options like field hockey and golf. Along with this sort of close proximity to the beach and downtown, James Island residents often take the 5-10 minute drive to these areas for entertainment. However, there are plenty of of things you can do and never have to leave the island. You will certainly locate quite a few chain restaurants like Chick-fil-A, but virtually all James Island’s restaurants are locally owned. The Mustard Seed, Andolini’s Pizza, Barberitos, The Kickin’ Chicken, and Boulevard Diner are a handful of the area preferred. James Island even offers two movie theaters – a Carmike Cinema that shows each of the major motion pictures and the Terrace Theatre, which shows mostly independent films. For outdoor entertainment, the James Island County Park has a little something for anyone. It's got the greatest climbing wall in SC, a dog park, a fishing pier, and a water park in addition to the in excess of six hundred acres of walking trails, intramural fields, and marsh. for the most up to date information on James Island Real Estate for the most up to date information on Charleston Foreclosures for the most up to date information on Isle of Palms Foreclosures
