The Water's Fine on Cocoa Beach, Florida - Lots of Fun and No Oil!

By
Real Estate Agent with Oikos Realty, Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach Florida

This is an NOAA map of the Gulf Stream. Significant amounts of oil have not yet entered the Loop Current and even if they do, you can see that the Cocoa Beach area should not have a direct hit. The oil will be diluted and off shore at that point and we may see a few tar balls wash up. Certainly nothing that clean up crews can't handle. My wife went to the beach today and the water was clear and beautiful to swim in.

Possible Oil Spill Flow

Some of my northern customers have fears about property values in the area being affected by the spill. To them, I say Cocoa Beach is still pristine and swimmers have nothing to worry about. It's a great place to live or visit and the spill should not have any significant impact on home prices. Come on down and stay a while!

Cocoa Beach Swimmers

There were some tar balls that washed up on shore about a week ago but that happens from time to time anyway and it has now been confirmed they are not from the Gulf spill according to authorities.

Wish I was there - it's 108 today and our humidity is higher than normal, making for a sticky, icky day.  I sure do miss the beach.

Hopefully, they will get that new and improved containment cap in place on the well by tomorrow, so we can begin to heal the Gulf and the gulf stream.  I can't recall an incident which has created more frustration for so many!

Myrl - You are so right. Some people are holding off buying a home until they see what happens. It's frustrating for everyone and I for one will not buy any BP gas period!

Lori - People need to know that this area is safe. Just the perception of an oil problem causes doubt and uneasiness.

John,

Florida needs to get the info out better that their beaches, for the most part, are still pristine.

Debra - Everyone in Florida is affected even when their area is not affected. The State is trying to get the word out but some people only read headlines.

Nary a tar ball in sight in this pix.

Nor as many bikinis as you usually feature.

Hi John, considering the naval station at Cape Canaveral and the busy cruise port as well as all the other boating and activities, there will be the occasional tar ball.  The Space Coast beaches are great to enjoy!
