Parent Influence Matters More Than Public Schools vs. Private Schools

Whether lower-income city students go to public schools or private schools doesnt matter to their achievement as much as their parents do. In either case, findings by the Center on Education Policy show that the most significant factors in their present and future achievements are having parents who are involved in their lives, earn enough money to give them enriching experiences, and have high aspirations for their children. Though the SAT scores of private school students were higher, their performance in math, reading, science, and history was no better, They were no more likely to go to college or to be more satisfied with their jobs at age 26.  One of many reasons why Williamson County is such a great place to live is the Parental involvement in our schools.

It matters to us as much as it matters to you.

Lee great post and excellent points made.  It is important for people to know that the most influential teacher in any child's life is their parent.

I agree as well! Involved parents are essential to the growth of their kids and there is no substitute for being there!

As a parent in Williamson county ,I can tell you that having kids at Sunset Middle School is almost like having a second job. There is a very high expectation that we, as parents, are involved on a daily basis. I think that it makes a hugh difference and I happy that we chose Brentwood, TN as our home.
