Hudson River two Hour Cruise Kingston -Hyde Park

Unlike Gilligan, the skipper, and company my two hour cruise was a success. The weather was wonderful and I was not left stranded.

My husband, son, and I boarded the Rip Van Winkle at the Roundout . Our trip started on the Roundout Creek which emptied in to the Hudson. As soon as we entered the Hudson we came across the Roundout Creek Lighthouse.

On the left we saw the Rhinecliff train station and the newly renovated Rhinecliff Hotel. (Grand Opening Soon)

We passed people sailing, and why not? It was a glorious day.

Next we came to an area called the Esopus Meadow, the Captain told us that at low tide it could get as low as four feet. Here we also saw the Esopus Meadow Lighthouse. When it was in operation the family would live there for a month at a time. At present it is undergoing restoration.

We passed mansions, marinas and boat houses.

So, after seeing this do you feel like taking a Hudson River Cruise? It is not too late for the summer but the fall cruise is also spectacular; just imagine what you will see at the height of the fall foliage.

Jennifer, as a child I spent summers in Ulster Park, and was very familiar with Esopus, Rondout Creek, and the Hudson. My parents, brother and I used to go out on a small motor boat and pack picnic lunches. I still think the Hudson Valley is one of the prettiest areas in the country. The nineteenth century Hudson Valley school of art was inspired by it.

We also have a local cruise of the Connecticut River. Everything seems to look different from the boat looking towards the shore.

Jennifer- I do!! With our daughter living in NYC one of these years we are going to visit all those wonderful places. I love light houses and that one almost looks like it is floating. It is too far to bring our sail boat but maybe we can rent one.

George - I couldn't resist that line. Anyway you are right you get a different view from the water. I was having fun trying to identify building we passed along the way. Your neck of the wood is also very beautiful.

Marchel - You would not be disappointed. In addition to the cruise there are many old mansions you could tour.
