I jumped on the band wagon!

Home Stager with Prep This House Interiors Inc.

I know what it is like to be a “savvy “ shopper  but I  must admit that I have  spent way too much  on what I thought at the time were quality products (furniture or accessories) to make my home look its very best!  I remember a few years back my youngest son, telling me that my house looked like a show home, so I thought “Yeah!  I have done it!”  My house is done and it looks great!

So when my husband and I decided a while ago  to put our  home up for sale. This wasn't just any home, this was the one that we had built “just for us” the way we wanted it!    The prospect of selling was overwhelming!  Being a Home Stager and telling clients every day the things that are required to get a home sale ready, made me think that getting my own home ready to sell would be a breeze!  Since I knew exactly what needed to be done!   Boy was I wrong on that one!  We had lived in that home for over 6 years and without really paying attention we had accumulated a lot of “stuff”!

There were so many things that needed to get packed, sorted, sold… the list seemed to go on and on!  I had boxes in my basement storage room for ages it seemed.  We re- painted, cleaned carpets, trimmed shrubs, painted fencing.  Of course I “staged” the inside, removing all personal pictures, clutter and rearranged our furniture so the house looked its very best!  All this did not come without stress of course…several times along the way I really did  think about just saying to heck with it and staying where we were! Sheesh... I now hear ringing in my ears, previous clients telling me the exact same thing.....

All the hard work and sweat paid off though when the listing agent announced that our home was excellent and he would do a virtual tour so that everyone could see how great it looked…  He never got the opportunity!  Our house sold right away!

So from personal experience I know Home Staging works!  Yes it was a lot of work to get our home SALE READY!  But it was so worth it in the end!

Kym-Thanks for sharing this.  I am going to print it and give it to my mother who is just beginning to get the process of clearing out clutter to get ready to list her home.  I am pretty sure she is overwhelmed ...

Kym, great point.  That's funny your agent never got to produce the virtual tour.  Love when that happens,

Congratulations on a quick sale. I wouldn't even want to think about starting to get my home ready for sale! Too many collections packed in boxes that I need to get sold first. Plus with two St. Bernard's it is really a pain to load them up and drive around while someone looks at your house, ha.

I can relate to homeowners who have pets, as we had two minature Dachshunds, so it was important to remove all evidence of our pets and also to make sure the house didnt smell of dog!

Kym -- I'm glad to hear that your house sold so quickly -- congratulations!  I've been working like a maniac for the past 2 weeks getting mine ready, and the photos are being taken tomorrow.  I know exactly what you mean that now we really understand how our clients feel when we tell them what they have to do:  overwhelmed!  Wish me luck!  :-)
