St. Cloud River Bluffs Regional Park Compost Site is not the most exciting reason to love St Cloud MN, but it is very worthwhile.
The St Cloud city compost site is fantastic if you have some landscaping projects to do around the house. For a simple one time fee of $25 you can go to the site and pick up truck loads of mulch and compost.
The compost is created using the collected yard waste like grass clippings, tree trimmings, plant matter and stumps. The compost is rich black dirt and boy do the plants in the garden love it. If you have soil (I use the term loosely, more like sand with clay and large chunks of granite mixed in) like mine, the compost site is very helpful for filling raised beds.
The mulch is from the trees that have been cut down in the area, they are ground into a nice medium cut mulch. The pile grows and shrinks throughout the season; as more is taken away the city turns on the large mulching machine and makes more.
There are quite a few large logs in a pile and I have not asked but I have found myself wondering if you had a wood-burning fireplace or stove if you could pick up firewood too. I might have to ask next time I am over at the St Cloud city compost site getting another load of mulch, just out of curiosity.
