Marilyn Monroe's Brentwood Home For Sale at $3.6 Million

By
Real Estate Agent with COMPASS DRE# 01339266

Via The LA Times I discovered that the Brentwood home where Marilyn Monroe passed away has been listed For Sale at $3.6 Million.

The property last sold for $925,000 in 1996 and had previously changed hands in 1986 for $850,000.

The home at 12305 5th Helena Drive in Brentwood, CA 90049 is the only home the actress ever owned. She lived in the house for 6 months before her death.

According to The MLS "the home is an authentic 1929 Hacienda situated behind tall gates at the end of a quiet cul de sac. The 2600 sq ft home has 4 Beds and 3 Baths and features traditional casement windows, polished concrete & terra cotta tile floors & original wood beamed ceilings".

Monroe had purchased the home in 1962 for $90,000, and had been set to make mortgage payments at $320 a month. (Property Taxes on the current List Price would be approximately $3750 per month).

The property is listed by David Offer of Prudential California Realty, with photos by Lee Manning.

A beautiful home.  How times change.  The taxes would be 10 times her monthly mortgage payments.

Stewart, it looks like a fantastic home. Is the price right or does it reflect the fact that Marlyn Monroe once owned it?

I wonder if they do open houses on that listing???  And I agree with the other comment, advertise it as where she lived.

Yes, this is BRENTWOOD, but not that Brentwood Corinne.  By the way, here in Asheville North Carolina, Andie MacDowell's house is on the market.  One of the handful of known celebrities here.  'Tis the season...

Is that the going rate for homes that size in the area?  Or is the price driven by the "star factor"?

It doesn't sound like much of a home for someone with her income, butit is a lovely home

This is a perfect example of the fascination of Real Estate.  Is it the celebrity factor, the glimpse it gives us, or when we look at we think, now that is a beauty, I want to live there?

Maybe a little of it all!

Lovely

PS, didn't Anna Nicole Smith live there!

Stewart- I love this home, and loved Marilyn Monroe.  It looks as if the subsequent owners have done a beautiful job of keeping it up.  I could just live by the pool.

Stewart, you are our connection to celebrity homes for sale :) I just read an article in Vanity Fair a couple of days ago about Marilyn's papers and belongings that were in this home and what happened to some of them.  How great to see photos of the actual house!
