Good Morning from Yellowstone National Park

By

I am back to Red Lodge after a short visit to Yellowstone National Park.

Here are photos captured on the morning of July 13, 2010 from the West Thumb of Yellowstone Lake.  You got to be up early to see these magnificent views!

Here are some other early birds!  :)

Here are the much awaited photos of the sunrise from the West Thumb of Yellowstone National Park.

Some elks decided to pay me a visit between the two photos above of the sunrise.

If you have not yet visited Yellowstone National Park, you should put it on your list of places to see and visit!  If you do visit Yellowstone, you should make sure to plan and spend some time in Red Lodge, Montana (located 69 miles from the Northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park and via a drive on the must-see scenic Beartooth Highway).

Paul,

The park is open 24 hours (at least no one stopped me when I entered at 4:00AM on the second day of my visit).  Wishing you many more sunny days ahead!  :)

Gerry...just how early were you up our friend??  If we could unglue our eyes that early, it would have been a stunning view and must have been so tranquil.

Al and Peggy,

I was up at 3:30am.   I was not planning to be up that early but once I was up, I could not go back to sleep because I was too excited and wanted to drive to Yellowstone Lake from West Yellowstone and be there on time for the sunrise.  I encountered a buffalo as well as a dozen of elks on the road but I was driving 30 miles per hour (under the limit) and I managed to slow down and avoid them (and getting to a full stop in the case of the dozen elks).    :)

Myrl,

It took a lot of patience to capture the last photo (but I was not in any hurry and I enjoy the fresh air and the quiet moments prior to this sunrise).  I am glad the photos turned out the way they did and to share them with you and the online community.  Thank you for the feature in one of my favorite groups here on AR!   :)

Gerry - Good morning.  It was a beautiful morning you had a couple of days ago in Yellowstone.  I had assumed that your trip was going to be for more than a couple of days so I was surprised to see you commenting a day or two ago.

Marc,

Good evening.  When you enter the park and pay for a regular admission, you have a whole week to visit the park.   You can see a lot in two days if you properly plan your route.  I bought an annual pass (for the price of two regular park admissions) so that I can always go back for another couple of days here and there.  The nearest entrance to the park is only 2.5 hours away from Red Lodge!  :)

A friend of mine is visiting family close to Yellowstone Park and told me how gorgeous it is there. I have never been, but it is now on my list of places I have to visit. Great photos!

Gorgeous shots Gerry - I would really love to visit Yellowstone Park.  I have been to many of Canada's provincial parks and love them all.  Each one of them has something unique to offer.

I also think each park has something unique to offer.   I do hope you get to see Yellowstone and see all its unique features especially the thermal features.

Gerry - great photos!  You've been featured on the "Specatular Sunrises & Sunsets" group.  I remember being in Idaho & Washington State when Yellowstone was on fire...and wishing I could come back the next year to see the wildflowers.  Thanks for sharing.
