CHECK IT OUT FIRST!
In these days of instant communication, it's even more important that we be careful what we repeat (or forward). Once again, I received a forwarded email. It sounded plausible (and a little exciting) so I thought perhaps it would make a fun blog.
(Be sure to read this entire blog. Don't fall for this!)
Here's what I received by forward mail:
"During the month of August Mars will come closer to the earth than it has ever been
before. By late August it will be bright orange and will seem as large as our
moon. Mark your calendars for this great event! Show your kids and grandkids. This is not likely to happen again for over 60,000 years!"
I think it would be irresponsible to report an event without doing some research and with all the search possibilities right here at our fingertips, how hard is that? So off I went to check it out. First stop; Google.
All I had to do was type in "August, 2010, Mars." Here's the first thing I saw:
"Beware the Mars Hoax"
Reading more I discovered that while Mars will be closer, it will simply look like a red star, perhaps a little brighter than usual but most people won't even notice it. So check out these events before you forward them to everybody in your address book.
