Saw this on Facebook this morning. The video is part of series apparently put out by Harding University at the start of the Cold War warning about the dangers of "isms". Too bad we've swung so far the other way. Way too many have drunk from the bottle and seem to like the taste. See for yourself.

Love the cartoon Walter, and Mikes answers to Karen Ann and Kelly are on point.  What I don't understand myself is how can any 2 or 3 people watch a videoand come back with totally different views?  It's like librals can't climb over the wall blocking their vision, their not even drilling a peep hole to take a look.  With out free enterprise who do the liberal agents think they are going to sell homes too?  The government will decide where you live and how much they will allow you to spend. Oh, by the way the government will have their own agency to find you living accommodation; no need for Franchised Brokers or Independent Brokers. All anyone has to do is look at other countries - I mean really look at them, don't gloss over to find one or two things that satisfy your side of the issue.  Look at your prospects of income and advancement if you were living within that government structure.  I know this would mean trying to ground a lliberals belief with facts, something most of them find unnecessary.  And since we have learnedfrom our Legislators , reading is not a requirement to passing a bill.

Walter:  You are so typical.  First of all, I have Glenn Beck on a record timer.  I watch him... just to see what kind of warped stuff he is spewing.  Yesterday... Beck and his chalk-board... the man is at times on the edge of insanity, and at other times... over the edge.

I watch O'Reilly... mostly because he is the most "literate" and the most "honorable"... and I watch Hannity... as much as I can take of that fast-talking, self-impressed goof.  So... do not make unwarranted assumptions.  By the way... on my U-Verse channel set-up, and it was the same when I had Dish Network... they have Fox News right in the middle of the rest of the cable news stations, when it should be in with the Cartoon Network.

And, somewhere you mentioned about me "hating."  I do not hate.  The ideas these folks have are very frightening, and their lack of intelligence and blind-acceptance of their drivel by so many conservatives... I find close to unbelievable, but I do not hate anyone.

I do not hate Capitalism, either.  But unregulated Capitalism is just what it implies... unregulated is out-of-control.  Too prone to excesses.  Just as out-of-control Conservatism is.  And talk about control ?  Conservatives want... no, they just about require... other folks to either believe what they believe, or they call them blind.

If more conservatives and other Republicans were more like Scott Brown, and less like Ms Palin, I could even vote for a few of them.

But... don't worry about Obama in 2012.  I am somehow hoping that he will "retire"... and Hillary Clinton will run for, and win, the Presidency.  In my mind, that should solve everything.  In my mind, President Obama, as good as he is, was not ready for the Presidency.  It should have been Hillary for President, and Obama as VP... and let him learn for eight years while Hillary repaired all the tragic damage to this country that eight years of President Cheney and VP Bush caused.

By the way, Walter and Lois.  Do you know how to use the spell-check button ?  I taught English and grammar... both of you get a C- in my class.

Ahh yes, Walter... the 98% that won't "get off their butts."  How pompous... how utterly pompous.

And finally, Walter... I have never smoked anyting.  Never did any type of drugs.  When I want dope, I turn on Fox News.

Karen - so I guess you're saying that what Glenn Beck put out about Van Jones was made up? What he's exposed about progressives in general, that's made up too?

Commenting about the 98% isn't pompous, just factual. If that hurts so be it. The fact is that there is no excuse for the 98% not to have all that they want. The fact is that they do have all that they want or else they'd get off their butts and do something to get more. There is no one with their finger keeping you or anyone else from doing anything and accomplishing anything you want to. To say otherwise is ridiculous.

On the smoking I'm just trying to figure out how to make sense of a group of entrepreneurs that don't seem to have a clue as to what makes what we do possible.

There is not a true conservative out there that has a problem with regulating capitalism. We just want the minimum controls necessary. Take this piece of garbage legislation that just passed as regulatory reform. All it has done is give permanent work for lawyers and lobbyists for the next couple of years while not protecting anyone. In stead its about paying back the unions and other supporters of the Dems. Had Bush done this you'd have been one of them jumping up and down about how bad it is. And it would have been bad under Bush as well. It's stupid, unneeded and doesn't do a think to make the financial system any safer than it was yesterday.

As to spell check, if Active Rain's editor doesn't catch it then it will likely get through since I'm typing this and doing productive work that earns me money at the same time. Don't like the way I type, don't read my stuff.

If you're going to criticize my grammar and spelling then lets work on your reading comprehension. No where in this post has anyone accused you of hating anything or anyone. Mike did say the following but again in no way accuses you of hating anything or anyone. "I believe that I have seen you refer to Beck as presenting hate speech, (if not, forgive me my mistaking you for someone else). Since you apply this to Beck what do you find so hateful about this? Much of what was shown in this "cartoon" is happening right now it D.C. But, I guess since it is a liberal administration its ok to give up freedoms?"

Walter - I am going to side, somewhat, with Karen Anne on one thing, your attitude about the 98% that don't have what the 2% have. For one thing, I am in that 98%, and even when I was a millionaire, I was still in that 98%. While there is some correlation with people getting off of their butts to get what they want, there are also external factors which they have no control over (only how they react to those factors). In todays environment, no matter how many people get off of their butts, there are only so many jobs, even low paying jobs, which people are flocking to.

Its kind of like golf, now matter how hard you work, not matter how much you practice, you are still subject to the vagaries of the terrain, weather, etc. The majority of golfers who try to make it on the PGA Tour don't make it, at least not for very long. And those that try to make it on the Nationwide Tour have the same problems. Its not for lack of working hard.

All that I am saying is that hard work and attitude are no guarentee to get everything you want. We are given a level playing field, not guarenteed equal outcome.

Mike:  Thanks for a sensible and well thought-out comment.  There are some times when we have agreed in the past, and I am sure that there will be more than a few in the future.

And Walter, other than implementing regulations... which Cheney and friends massively did away with in their terms in power, it is the liberals who tend to expand freedoms.  It is the conservatives who tend to take them away, and make others conform to their ways, and their beliefs.

A woman's right to determine, with her physician, what personal choices she makes, and a person's right to marry the love of their life... even though that person may be of the same sex... are two great examples of conservatives taking away choices, and freedoms... and requiring others to conform to their own person belief systems... both religious and cultural.  Neither of those choices of theirs takes anything away from conservatives... yet conservatives still want to control those options.

Mike - I too am in the 98% but that in know keeps me from being in the 2%. There is nothing that prevents it other than my own belief in myself and my willingness to go for it. Anything else is a cop out. There are plenty of people without "jobs" for instance that have discovered the entrepreneurial side and have found a life that is more fulfilling and more lucrative than they had before. Telling me anyone is stuck where they are is like telling me that Sam Walton couldn't become a Billionaire because he didn't graduate high school. You gave the solution to the very problem that you bring up. Its got nothing to do with the external factors. It has everything with how you react to them. So what if the guy can't make it playing golf, he doesn't have the talent, maybe his talent is in broadcasting golf or writing about golf, all ways to use what he's passionate about and still make all the money he wants to make.

All that said you get it right in your last sentence. We are provided equal opportunity. We are not guaranteed equal results.

Karen - I guess it's the Republican's fault that murder and robbery are crimes too. What a shame to make anyone live so civilized. By the way. Abortion is the murder of an innocent life that has no way to protect his or herself and should be illegal but it is the liberals that have not only forced their way of thinking on the rest of us they want me to pay for them to have the procedure as well. And gay marriage has not been taken away from anyone. It's never been granted except by liberal judges. Last I looked any time its been put on a ballot (at least at a state level) its been defeated by the people. The problem with liberals in general is that they can't have their way at the ballot box so they try to legislate their will on me and you accuse me as a conservative of making you live the way I want you to. What hogwash!

It's liberals that took prayer out of schools, even though no one was being forced to pray. It's liberals that legalized the butchering of innocent children, 50 million in this country alone since 1973. It's liberals that want to force me to support anyone and everyone that doesn't do an adequate job preparing for retirement. It's liberals that tax my income in ever increasing amounts with no accountability whatsoever. It's liberals that want to take away my right to own a gun. It's liberals that want to force me to pay for a woman's abortion. It's liberals that think I should be forced to have my child taught about 2 mommies and the gay agenda whether I want my child exposed to that or not. It's liberals that don't want creation taught along side evolution because it means there just might be an intelligent creator out there. It's liberals that won't let Christianity be taught or discussed in the classroom but have no issue with Buddhism, Islam, or any other religion being taught and discussed at length. Don't even start whining to me about conservatives making you conform to their beliefs. That's hogwash as well.

Walter:  You are just so funny to listen to.  Way beyond being lucid.  Please... your religious BELIEFS are yours, and that is fine with me.  Just do NOT try and FORCE them on me.  A belief is a belief.  It may or may not be true, but that is not the point here.  It is a belief.

That god exists is a belief.  There is no proof.  That is why they call it "religious belief."  And your silly, silly nonsense about their even being a "gay agenda" is also simply your belief.  All gays and lesbians want... is simply to be love the person they are in love with.

And please do not point to your bible for proof of anything.  You believing in your bible is simply your "belief."  Fine.  I am honestly and truly glad for you that it provides you a sense of comfort when you need it.  Cool.  Just do not force in on me, or on anyone else who chooses to "believe" differently.

You, my poor little one, are way, way over the edge.  But that is ok... you are allowed to be, just as long as you and your beliefs just stick to yourself, and do not infringe on others.

Hogwash, huh.  I guess that is where you and the pigs have something in common.

No more, please.  No more.  I give up.  Reading your pablum makes my head hurt... so, I am finished with this post.  I will no longer respond... since there is no point to it.

I wish you well in your beliefs.  But remember, that is what they are... beliefs.

Giving up is fine but I've already noticed in you that as soon as you can't win the arguement you go to slandering someone. Whether it be the way they write or now you think its the way I believe.

What I believe is what I believe and I will die defending that right. I will also die to defend your right to believe the hogwash you wish to push. My problem with you and all liberals is that it's not okay for me to talk about my beliefs and even seek to convince others that they are correct. What I believe is simple or stupid and based in superstition. It may even be dangerous according to some. You on the other hand are wise beyond years and it is quite okay for you to shove your filth down my throat. It AIN'T happening.

And by the way, if I'm wrong prove me wrong rather than resorting to the trash talk you just responded with. That is neither intelligent or called for. I in no way ever talked down to you or about you. But then again that's okay for you. You're much more intelligent than I. You just showed that.

One more thing. The proof of God is all around you. All one has to do is look at a sunset or a snowflake. When we both die if I'm wrong I'll have simply lived a good life and not hurt anyone, rather I would have left here trying to help any that wanted to be helped. However if I'm right, where does that put you?

It isn't even worth the arguemnt sometimes...  Liberal like to paint with a broad brush, but seldom like to dabble in details.  The details don't work out well for them.

Communism CAN'T work.  Socialism just takes longer to implode.  And while complaining that 2% have most of the wealth, keep in mind that regulations get tighter and tighter... and and the super rich get richer.  And then funny thing is that the super rich like Democrats.  Ever wonder why?

And Karen Anne, some freedoms expand under liberal administrations, others under conservative ones.  Your blanket statement is utterly false.  The current left wing administration is gobbling up freedoms as fast as it can... they would like to make wholesale changes.

Cancer is a 'Progressive' disease...  Everything progressive isn't good... and going from bad to worse is still change.

Melissa:  Yes, I do believe in God.  And that, is a "belief."  It is something I believe in, something that I choose.  And it, being a "belief"... is something that cannot be proven.  If you want, as Walter does, if you want to come up with signs, like snowflakes, and use those to "prove" that there is a god, that does not work.

If however, you, or Walter, wants to use a snowflake as a sign that personally, that there "has to be" a god, then fine.  I can understand how that works.

I belief that their are many religions that can work for different people.  I don't KNOW that there is a god, but I believe there is.  Also, if there is a god, I believe that god is all-powerful, and will present himself, or herself, or itself, to anyone and everyone in this world to believe in whatever way works for them.

If those believing in Islam need for their god to be Allah, that is fine.  God is that powerful, and can be whatever they need him (in their case) to be.  If Christians need their god to be God the Father, and for Him to have a Son... that is fine, as well.  God is all-powerful, and he (for christians) can be their God the Father, and God the Son.

Who is my "god."  I guess the closest thing that I could describe, is "The Holy Spirit."  Is it possible for The Holy Spirit of Christians to be part of the "Trinity?"  Sure it is.  God can do whatever god wants to do.

If god wants to be the god that was found in the movie Avatar, god can do that as well.

I believe that the belief in god... so often is the cause of so much of the violence and wars that are fought on this earth.  The reason for that is that folks who "believe" in their god so rabidly, so crazily, that they climb onto their own personal spiritual or biblical steamroller, and try and crush, either actually or spiritually, anyone else who either believes in a different god, or anyone who does not believe in "their" god.

How silly.  Believing in god is not like going to a Texas A&M game, where their "fans" in the stands wave their "We're Number One" signs, and belittle every other team that comes to play them.  That is how I see "some" christians, and "some" Muslims, and "some" of the Sunnis and Shia, and "some" of the Catholics and "some" of the Protestants in Ireland.

But, again, is all of this that I believe... is it all "correct ?"  Who knows, and who cares ?  It is simply a belief.  It may work for me, and not work for others.  But, who cares ?  It is simply a "belief."

It cannot be proven.  No religion can be "proven."  One can always come up with their personal "snowflake" and point at it as a sign that "their" god exists, and again, that is fine.  But once more, it is their "belief."  If I disagree, that is my right, but I do not have any right to try and take their beliefs away from them, or to insist that they believe in mine.

The fact that Walter went ballistic about being anti-choice, or pro-life, or whatever term he wishes to use, that is fine.  That is his belief.  But I, as well as others, have the right to my beliefs, as well.  If I choose to believe that life does NOT begin at conception, that is my right.  Would I personally have an abortion if I were to become pregnant.  Right now, I would say no, I would not.

Same-sex marriage.  Do two men or two women have the "right" to get married?  Some religions with prohibitions of that in their "holy book" say no.  Others say yes.  But, our constitution says that all people should have equal rights.  Period.  Equal rights, equal freedoms.  Some things, actually, many things... are quite simple.

OK... Melissa, I am done now.  Have a great weekend.  I hope some of this answers your question.  Anyone else... these are my "beliefs."  I have a right to them, no matter how warped you may think those beliefs are.  Tell you what.  I will not criticize you for your beliefs, and please do not criticize me for mine.  Sounds like an equal trade to me.

The best thing in life is when your belief is confirmed to you by God Himself & the wonderful things that happen in your life are directly related to believing & trusting in God.

Karen Anne you are the one who started the name calling and bring this discussion to a level not becoming of any of us.  People make mistakes when they are writing and speaking, thats why you were hired as an English teacher.  It's fine to correct your students in the classroom, but not to berate or try to embarrass people who are trying to have a civil debate with you.  Spell check is my best friend when I am writing because I know I make mistakes, and sometimes it misses a word here and there; it seems you have the same problem.  My point is, we are not children here and your constant referral to anyone who disagrees with you as "silly" and pointing out our grammatical errors lowers the level of the discussion we are trying to have. You and I are not going to agree in every area of politics, some of your views I agree with, most I don't; I still try to see both sides.  But please, lets keep to the issues and stop the personal attacks. We can agree to disagree in a respectful manor.
