The heart of a rose

The heart of an antique rose in Cibolo, Texas

I planted two rose bushes this spring in my organic garden in Cibolo, Texas. They are both heritage roses from the Antique Rose Emporium, and so far, I am very happy with them. This one has had fewer flowers than the other, probably because it is in partial shade until late afternoon.

They are antique roses, so the full blooms don't have the typical tea rose shape you see in florists' arrangements. Instead, they open quickly to show their hearts, and they smell wonderful. In a couple of days, the petals will have crinkled up and blown away.

Thanks Robin for the reminder for me to stop and take time to smell the roses. I can get caught up in the daily businsess and forget about the important things in life.

That is beautiful.  Since the birds keep eating all my veggies, I was thinking of turning my garden aka bird feeder, into a flower/rose garden.

Really nice shot, Robin!  I've seen a lot of roses, but the color of that one is slightly different than any I remember!  I like it!

Well you did it again my friend with a click of your nifty camera. We went to Sea Island today for lunch and when we drove I-35 and saw the Schertz sign I thought about you. Have a good week.

Antique roses in an organic garden - perfection! It's too bad they don't last a little longer.

That reminds me that I need to go take a walk at the Balboa Park rose garden. Apparently it is one of the largest in the nation.

Wow that is very nice.  I wish I had more of a green thumb for roses.  Mine never seen to do well.  I guess they require more maintence than I can provide.
