Blaine MN 55434 July 17 storm sunset

I hope everyone is OK after the wicked storm that just blew through Blaine MN.

After the storm, just about sunset, I snapped this with my cell phone.  By the time I was able to get my actual camera out, the moment had passed.

This photo doesn't even do it justice.  The sky was so bright orange, it looked like it was on fire.

It wasn't but a few moments later when I got this shot.  You can see the bright color starting to fade.  Then after about a minute or so, it was gone.

Patti, those are great photos … and from a cell phone! Amazing … it looks like a fire in the sky! Thanks for sharing.

Very beautiful, Patti.  My kids nicknamed me "Sunset Susan" when they were little because I loved to drive to the beach to watch the sunset and photograph it.  A couple of times I even climbed up on our roof to get good pictures, so you can see that the nickname did fit!

Thanks a bunch Kathleen and Susan for the nice comments.  The first photo is a little fuzzy, but yes that was taken with my Palm Treo phone and it is an older model too!  I am still using the older phone because it has the infrared for our lockbox system.

Wow, Susan, don't fall off the roof!  I also tend to be fascinated with sky photos at sunset, but also of storms.  I am just now getting good with a camera and couldn't believe how well these turned out.  Mother nature was sure putting on a show and I was just in the right place at the right time I guess.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Great photos Pattie Ann.  And from a phone no less!  Mother Nature can indeed be awesome, for good or bad.

Thanks Robin, Sue, and Tim for stopping by and saying hello!

Both photos were from the cell phone.  When I did get my camera in my hot little hands, the color had all faded away.

TV has been out and guess what?  Neighbors came out of their houses and actually spoke to each other in person...  Well at least 2 of us anyway!

That sure was a storm last night, great pictures. Any trees down in your area?

Thanks for commenting Steve.  No we got pretty lucky.  My garden got torn up a bit... My husband is bummed out because our most of our Bhut Jolokia (ghost peppers) got snapped in half, but no big trees down.  Just some small branches and lots and lots of wind.  I think my neighbor had a pretty good size branch down in their backyard, but it doesn't appear to have done much damage here.  Most of it was around the Ham Lake/Blaine city limits.  We are about 20 blocks south of there.

Y'all got it pretty bad up there I hear!  Hope you and your family and friends are all OK.

I used to live in Texas and I got a call from one of my friends down there who was just astonished that we actually get tornadoes here.  I guess he figured Texas and Oklahome are the ONLY states that get them.  So I had to explain the cyclical nature of the jet stream to him...

Better than hurricanes in the south and earthquakes in the west!
