New back-splash...finally!

New back-splash finally!

When we had the granite installed (replacing builder's laminate) in our kitchen, I knew that eventually I would put in a back-splash but I also knew that project might be "in the future".

Fast forward 5 years and it's finally done and I'm so happy.  It involved A LOT of tile cutting because we installed in on the diagonal and my original design was tweaked a bit, but every time that I pass through the kitchen it brings a smile to my face.

Here is the before and after....:)

Now I'm thinking that we may need to do the same on the Hawaii vacation rental.

Phly, thank you.  Client's homes get the attention first not my house, just like the ole' adage says.  Love the glass tile inserts that I hadn't originally planned on!

Cyndee, hubby was a BIG help.  He did all of the cuts!  Thank you.  I've done a lot of tiling projects and I really like it...usually.

Maureen....love DIY projects, bring it on.  The glass tiles were the perfect colors to coordinator the colors of the granite.

Love it. I need to do my back splash but can't decide on my new counter tops and that needs to be first so it just keeps getting delayed. Glad to know it took you 5 years too. You did a wonderful job.

Shar, it is a major decision because that's something that doesn't often get changed and can be spendy.  I thought about all glass tiles for the back-splash but IMO they're too trendy.  Just a touch is enough for this house.   Always thinking about the eventual sale. Thanks for the compliment and comments.

Sharon...LOL you're right it IS about time.  I've got a honey-do list that's ever growing and the problem is that I'm the only honey that will do most of them.  He (honey) did help with this one thankfully! Thank you for sticking with me here!

Five years???  I feel your pain.  It is taking me much longer to update my home than I ever dreamed possible.  Of course, available funding has something to do with it.  The backsplash looks great!

Ginger- I love the accent tiles you added for "pop".  BTW- I thought my husband (the builder) held the world record for "catching" a running commode!!! I'm really impressed that you did it yourself.  Had I laid the tile, they'd be popping off right about .....now!!!

Patsy, yes the $$ always plays a part.  Now I'm looking at the master bathroom.  BIG project!  Thanks for commenting.

Kathy, Nah they wouldn't.  Tiling really isn't difficult just a bit labor intensive and takes some planning. Just start small like tile a bed tray or a table top.  Funny comment about your builder/husband.  Thanks.

Beautiful backsplash, Ginger!  I'm contemplating some kitchen updates in the not-too-distant future too, so I found your pictures very inspiring!  Not only do the accent tiles coordinate beautifully with the granite, it also looks like they mimic the cabinet hardware -- bronze?  Oh, and I hate to reveal my ignorance by asking, but did you have to install cement board behind the tiles?  My husband didn't like that idea very much... :)

Hi Leann and thank you.  It was a fun project and we love the outcome.  No, we did not use cement board underneath because the guys at Lowes said it wasn't necessary.  I have done other projects on drywall and not had problems so I figured why not, because like your husband feels, the simplier the better.

Great news, Ginger!  My husband will probably be disappointed -- I think he thought I'd give up on the tile backsplash when he mentioned cement board...  LOL!    :)
